.: Review :. The Terminal

Posted by on October 31, 2004  |  No Comments

So I juz finished watched The Terminal today on DVD…borrowed from erin {thanks gurl!}

Viktor (Tom Hanks) is stuck in the terminal of an airport because he has problems with his visa. There he meets an airstewardess (Catherine Zeta-Jones) and starts to have feelings for her. Without any knowledge of english, or any money, he has to survive and live in the airport.

Coming from Steven Spielberg with great actors & actresses, this movie does not dissapoint. I find this movie inspiring, touching, funny and interesting with a hint of romance (trust any movie NOT to have a kissing scene)

So yeah, for those who havent watched it, please go..its worth it :)

.: Review :. The Butterfly Effect

Posted by on October 30, 2004  |  No Comments

I kno im a bit outdated….well okay, not a bit, but A LOT outdated.

I juz watched “The Butterfly Effect” on DVD starring Ashton Kutcher (yes, Demi Moore’s boy-toy LOL!) and Amy Smart (not sure who she is) but she looks familiar….

Anyway, so the story is about this guy (Ashton obviously) that can somehow go back to his past to change things. The thing is, everytime he changes something, someone around him suffers – either his mom, his gf, his gf’s bro or his best friend – or even he himself.

A bit of background. I liked the introductionary (sp) phrase given….it was about the Chaos Theory, not sure if u’ve heard it before that goes something like….a flutter of a butterfly’s wing can cause a typhoon in the other side of the world. To explain it better is maybe to imagine a stone thrown in a lake: a small ripple starts that continues and expands till it reaches the side of the lake. Meaning a small thing can make a significant difference.

So it got me thinking…what I do today does have its consequences. Mayb not today, or next week…but maby next month, next year, 10 years. Or mayb not me, not my family….but mayb my neighbours, or someone i meet across the street.

Like how if you say one sentence and the person hearing it is traumatized for life. That’s why i dont call my sisters by pet names, coz it sticks to them. Or if u say one wrong word and the person hearing it is offended. In my case, it happened juz yesterday. I was flirting with this guy on online pool and i jokingly passed a comment that he was a perv. Then he terasa and got all offended and he said it ruined the chemistry we had before that. It got to the point that he said he would want to say anything s*xual {have to censor it for those in Curtin to be able to read..LOL!} to a gal anymore. I felt so bad about it and kept apologizing but finally he didnt want to reply me back. :( I’ve learnt my lesson before that i have to keep controling this mulut laser of mine but i need to be re-taught all the time

So today, i’ll end with a poem. Yes, one of my own….written at the end of 2002 – before my senior year exams.

An Awakening Of ReasonWhen I look around me and I hear happy laughs
Of groups of friends happily talking and having fun
As they enjoy friendship alone at this corner I observe
I often wonder what’s inside behind the mask of mirth

Maybe some secret wound inside which no one ever sensed
Due to some hidden hurt someone inflicted on them
Then I think of the many times I failed to heal those wounds
Inside hearts of friends and family of which I might have caused

I think of times which I failed to brighten up your day
But instead making it worse by my actions or what I say
I realize now that I was wrong I looked like I didn’t care
I was heartless and cruel at what I did or said

So here all I want to say is I shouldn’t wait another day
To say that I really do care I’m sorry if it didn’t seem that way
Would you please forgive me?

Meeting Wilson at KLCC

Posted by on October 30, 2004  |  No Comments

On Wed i decided to follow Erin back home coz i was bored and also wanted to go visit her. Then i pujuked her to come stay over at my place since she is going to meet up with Wilson at night. So my mom was supposed to pick me up at 6.50pm so i waited for her till around 7.20pm and smsd her saying i wanted to go to KLCC….she misunderstood my message and went home. when i finally called her just before 8pm, then she realized her mistake and i ended up in the LRT station at around 8.40 pm. Took us another 30 mins to get to KLCC and finally met up with Wilson at 9.15 pm. So we went to grab a bite at a mamak stall that was clearing up their stuff and Wilson paid for it coz he said we susah payah come down all the way just to see him (it was his bday and erin wanted to pass him his prezzie). And we sat there chatting till 11 pm (KLCC actually closes at 10 pm) with all the shops closed and the cleaners mopping the floor. Then we took the LRT back (the last train) and went home (Wilson’s stop was before ours – University station). Erin & I talked till like 3 am before going to sleep.

The next morning she woke up early and around 9.30 am i woke up to see her off before she left {im not going to be a lousy host!} then went back to sleep and woke up at 3 pm {i kno u guys must be thinking…OMG! so late!}. And juz lepak at home……

On Fri juz lepak at home…….

Sat wouldnt be any different i guess

Messed up Day!! @#@%$%^^&!!

Posted by on October 26, 2004  |  No Comments

Feel so frustrated………

This morning when my sister woke up to school she and my dad were so noisy that I woke up before going back to sleep. As a result of that, i overslept and missed my morning bus. So I had to persuade my mom to send me which kind of pissed her off coz she hates sending me all the way. Not only that, I realized I actually slept on my specs {I wear contacts during the day and specs at nite} so its all bent out of shape…cant really wear it now :(

Then I had a presentation based on group work. The person who was in charged of making the board – where we put our notes – called me early this morning and complained that the other group mate’s information is not enough and also explained that she slept early the night before without doing it. So i just asked her todo what she can and bring it to the class. Time check : 10 am

Then i went to 11 am class a bit late. And while the other groups presented…waited and waited for her. She finally turned up like 15 mins before the class finished – EMPTY HANDED. And i was like WTF?!!? Then I asked if she at least had the notes…..and she said it’s all in her thumbdrive. So because of that I lost 10 marks for no presentation and another 15 marks is still depending on the quality of her work.

To add to that, i left my handphone in the car and dont have a phone now till around 3 pm. Its actually lunch but I dont feel like eating anything. Besides, I was too frustrated to eat.

Anyway, i have a class now so I gotta run before I’m too late.

Continued…..

That evening, I was supposed to take the 3 pm bus to Kelana Jaya but somehow I ended up on the wrong bus. The driver was the same as the KJ 12pm bus so I juz got up. When the bus was on the way, i realized it was only going to stop in Masjid Jamek – in the heart of KL – a 1.5 hour ride!!

As I didnt have my phone, i couldnt contact my mom and had to wait till i reached MJ. Den i walked a few blocks and found a public phone. Problem was, i dont remember my dad’s,mom’s or sister’s phone number. So I just called my own phone and my sis picked up. So i explain to her the whole situation and asked for my dad’s num. She didnt but instead passed the phone to my mom, then i had to explain the whole thing again. And asked for my dad’s number. Then she was so slow in answering that RM2 gone just like that. Haih~~!!!

Lucky i had a phone card with around Rm5.50 in it. So i called and asked for my dad’s hp num straight away. So I called him asking wat time he was going back and arranged to meet in KLCC to go back together. So, after eating at MJ, I took an LRT to KLCC den walked around…looking for jeans and when i met my dad, i asked him to buy (very dark blue jeans from Isetan – RM89), and we went to eat at 1901 American Hotdogs. Den we went to Kinokuniya coz I was looking for a textbook for school (Microsoft Office 2000 : Enhanced Edition) so I bought some stationary. Den we went back…..

Busy weekend

Posted by on October 25, 2004  |  No Comments

Kena complain already coz i didnt update my blog this weekend. Sorry guys (esp Joe :P) been busy lately. So here’s a recap:

Saturday
On Fri nite i slept really early (around 8-9pm…!!) so I woke up really early on Sat..partly coz my cousin smsed me asking for someone’s hp num. So was online till around noon when we (my family & I) went to eat Nando’s :) at One Utama. Yay! My fave!

Den we went to Bukit Bintang coz I needed to fix my phone – I cant use the wireless nor the GPRS/MMS – so the ppl in Nokia Care Center said have to update software…but dat means…..everything in my phone will be deleted….*cries*

So sad :( so i took the opportunity to insist to buy a connectivity cable (hp to PC) and we did manage to buy one in a handphone shop in Bukit Bintang – which was ciplak and I went home to test it out while my sis & mom stayed in BB. The cable is lousy…spoilt! have to go change it soon.

Oh yes, i ate seafood for dinner…yummy yummy

Sunday
Went to church in the morning – as usual – then came back and did MAJOR spring-cleaning…move furniture here and there and clean up the hell-hole-dumpster called my sister’s room – which im unfortunatly sleeping in as well.

Den around 2.30 pm, went to Sunway to play ice-skating with my 2 sisters…it was fun…but some idiot guy skated up behind me and somehow managed to hook his skates to mine, causing me to fall down on a BIG puddle – i hate skating on weekends, the ice is SO melted- making my butt & the back of my pants all wet.

Den we went to eat an early dinner (around 5.30 pm) {ice skating makes me hungry} at McDs and then we walk walk around and then played archery…im geting better at it :) and went back at 8 pm, and fell asleep still wearing my jeans, nice baju, jewelry and makeup till the next morning

My Goals

Posted by on October 22, 2004  |  No Comments

I added a new feature to my sidebar on the left. A scrolling up marquee with a list of my goals. It all started when I was reading an article on Mandy Moore and it was about the things she wanted to do before she hit the big three-oh (that’s 30 lah). So i decided to do the same. Here’s the full list even tho I dont have a lot of things in it yet. The ones in italics are my comments

Things I want to do
Eat at Nando’s {been craving for Nando’s chicken for bout 2 weeks now. Im not sure why}
Go To Miri to visit frens & take my stuff {I miss ppl in Miri!! Also I left so many things behind}
Go to Bintulu to go see Lola {I miss Lola badly :’(}
Move hse (Jan 2005) {Im moving to a new hse in Jan…the condo we’re renting is too small}
Upgrade PC Graphic Card {My graphic card is outdated a bit…i want to play d newest games la!!}

Must complete before 30
In no particular order
1. Go whitewater rafting {Done in 2003…with Gloria & Erin}
2. Bungee jumping {Hehe! Im a little bit scared of heights but constantly trying to get over it}
3. Sky diving {Same as above}
4. Attend a Hoobastank concert {I missed them the last time they were here!! :’( Doug Robb is CUTE!!}
5. Get an Apple iPod mini in white {Ever since it first came out many many years ago, i’ve always wanted it. Now the iPod mini is even nicer!!}
6. Publish a collection of my poems {Currently only 1 of my poems is published in a book “Shells on the Shore” published by Poetry.Com. I plan to have a whole collection of my poems in print :) Would u buy it?}
7. Travel to at least 1/3 of the world {So far i’ve only been to Brunei, Thailand & Brisbane/Gold Coast in Australia. I havent even been to Singapore}

Oh yes, and after reading Kak Wynn’s blog, I decided that it is very smart to colour code the messages. So from now on, all words in BM or any other foreign language will be in light purple. And all comments will be in light blue. All links will be in light red. More colours to come later…………..
Juz hope i remember to actually colour code it…ahhaha :P

I’ve been winning all my online pool games….feeling lucky today :)

And i walked under a bus, got hit by a train, keep fallin in love which is kinda the same

Posted by on October 21, 2004  |  No Comments

Too tired to update yesterday so here’s a short review of what happened yesterday:

Tuesday – Very tiring day!!
Had an early class…i mentioned it in my prev post. However, i actually got the time wrong. Apparently it was 2 classes 11-12.30 noon then 1.30-3 pm. The lecturer let us off earlier for the 2nd class so I managed to take the bus. By the time i got home it was 4pm. Rested for like 15 mins (even managed to take a short nap) den went out for something. When i actually got home it wuz around 7.30. So i was out for 12 hrs…since d bus is at 8 am, i had to leave around 7.30. Too tired to blog. Went to sleep early…around 11 sumthing pm.

Nuts man…i wish i had a car… *hopeful*

Wednesday – Boring
I had another 2 classes today….9-11 am and 2.30 – 4.30pm. But the evening class ended at 3 pm for this talk about degree courses. Waited for like 40 mins…but the speaker didnt turn up. Such a frustrating waste of time :S

Oh yes, on the way back i met this interesting gal. She was sitting next to me and her bag was kind of inthe way and that’s how we started talking. Apparently, she’s born in Sarawak, but has moved around and now staying somewhere in Mutiara Damansara – around my area. Her mom’s Pakistan/French and her dad’s Chinese. AND she knows how to talk Sarawak Malay…which is totally different from normal Malay or Semenanjung malay. So we were like yakking all the way back – a 40 min drive. The thing is…i forgot her name. i kno it’s Sarah something…one word but juz cant remember it. So yeah, it was fun :)

Oh oh oh…before i forget. I realized i never had a pic taken with Lola – juz the two of us alone. So i decided to Photoshop us together and add in Grace, my other best friend. Wat do u guys think? Nice? Nice?

Eyes wide open…..

Posted by on October 19, 2004  |  No Comments

7.30 am
Im back blogging. Didnt really sleep the whole nite…actually more like morning….I think im having insomnia or something. Going to uni now. Got 2 classes, 9-12.30 pm…see ya!

4 am
I added a banner to my blog. nice? Nice? The background of the banner is made out of pictures I took with friends back in Curtin Uni, Sarawak campus since mid 2003. Miss you guys so much!!! {Lola bebeh, i juz realized we dont have a pic together. Why?!?!?!?! *cries*} . I also changed the background of the blog…juz to make it nicer. It’s Yuna from Final Fantasy X-2

Hmm…didnt do much on Monday, just woke up REALLY late then laze around before going out for dinner with my auntie. My parents, me, my auntie, and 2 cousins – young adults, Lily & Patrick (I call him by his chinese name, Ah Hooi) ate at this Vegetarian restaurant. I was NEVER a big fan of vegetarian coz the meats & fish are made out of floor and dat really freaks me out coz i’m eating “fake” food. We ordered fried taufu with some sauce, “chicken” with some black sauce, vege, “fish” with a sort of curry sauce and some fried “fish” rolls.
My verdict : It was kinda nice…but i only ate the taufu & fish & vege…the chicken tasted & looked fake. Yuks!

Oh yes….i had a pretty interesting call this morning while i was sleeping and i lazily picked it up. The conversation went like this:
Curtin : Is this miss fiona?
Me : hmm…ya *i actually juz muttered my reply*
Curtin : ur hostel deposit is ready for collection
Me : Okay….*yawn*
Curtin : can you pick it up today?
Me : I’ve actually moved to KL, so i cant pick it up today….*”duh” i said in my heart*
Curtin : We could deposit it in ur account.
Me : Okay. How much is it btw?
Curtin : RM six hundred and………
Me : *shocked* Whaat!
Curtin : Can i have your account number please?
Me : I’ll call u back tomorrow with the details

WOW! didnt expect 600 plus ringgit to fall straight into my lap – not sure of the whole amount, as soon as i heard six hundred….everything after that didnt matter – thought they would have called my dad about this money issue. Hehe!
So i did some researching today my asking my parents innocent questions about banking in money and I’m going to call Curtin tomorrow coz I got my Account number already. Didnt tell my parents bout the money tho. I need extra money in my account and they would find out the next time they bank in money for my allowance so its no biggie….hehehe…I juz plan to keep it there for emergencies. Im not really the type to go shopping – very lazy to look around malls. hehe…
~~*~~
Current mood: pretty contented
Now Listening to: “Nasty Girl” by Nifty – Honey, i got a lotta money, could you be my nasty girl & let me do that dirty dance with you. Honey, shake dat sexy body, I juz want a nasty girl & tell me if dat nasty girl is u

Coconutice on Google

Posted by on October 19, 2004  |  1 Comment

Lol! I googled my nick and found a link to my blog (it’s the 2nd link listed) and the rest are mostly recipes. So decided to post up some of the recipes. The first link was a drink recipe for Coconut Icicle, and the next two are some dessert thingy. The other recipes online are variations of the ones im posting here.

And If i do get around to making some, i’ll post up pics :) ehhe…

Coconut Icicle

Ingredients : Water from 2 large coconuts, Crushed ice, 1 ginger ale (cold), 4 dashes of Angostura aromatic bitters
Method : Pour coconut water into a jug, add Angostura bitters and crushed ice.
Half fill glasses, then fill with cold ginger ale.

Serve 4 people.

Coconut Ice

Ingredients
2 cups whole milk
3 cups shredded coconut, fresh or packaged
1 cup sugar
pinch cream of tartar
1 egg yolk, beaten
a few drops almond extract

Directions
1. In a small saucepan, scald milk. Place 2 cups coconut in a sieve. Pour hot milk over coconut while holding sieve over large bowl to catch liquid. Use the back of a spoon to squeeze all of the milk out of the coconut.
2. In a large saucepan, combine coconut milk, sugar, and cream of tartar. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until sugar has dissolved.
3. Remove pan from heat and add beaten egg yolk. Beat well with a spoon. Stir in remaining coconut and add 2 or 3 drops almond extract. Taste and add more extract if desired.
4. Pour into 2 pie pans or pyrex dish. Cover with plastic wrap and place in freezer. 5. Remove coconut ice from freezer after 4 hours and break apart with a fork. Serve immediately.
Cooking time: 35 min
Serves: 6

Coconut Ice II

Ingredients:
340g desiccated coconut
340g icing sugar
400g tin of condensed milk
Optional food colouring

Cooking Directions:
1. Place the condensed milk into a bowl and add the icing sugar. Beat well then mix in the desiccated coconut. The mixture will get firm and difficult to stir but persevere until everything is all combined.
2. Divide the mixture into two (add optional food colourings to each) and spread into an 8inch square tin giving two coloured layers and allow to set overnight (time for a wee dram!)
3. Cut into small cubes and spread on a sheet of greaseproof paper to dry slightly.
4. Enjoy and remember to share with the wee bairns!

Alternative Suggestions:
Add edible colourings for a festive/seasonal variety – black and orange at Halloween, blue and white on St.Andrew’s Day, or red and pink at Valentine’s.

.: Review :. The Da Vinci Code

Posted by on October 17, 2004  |  No Comments

I actually finished reading this book a week ago but forgot to write a short review of it. One warning before reading tho…..please keep in mind that Dan Browns book is FICTION and presents ideas that goes against the Christian belief. Meaning from a Christian point of view, this book is utterly, absolutly wrong and blasphemic.

However, that said, this book is hard to put down. You’ll want to continue reading as every page brings a new turn of events. It’s 575 pages – roughly2.5 inches thick – but i got so engrossed in it that I read it in roughly 2days..seriously. I devour books like I drink water….hehehe

Brief sypnosis : This prof Robert Langdon wuz called to help in a murder investigation. Then he teamed up with a French cryptologist (something about figuring out codes, symbols and stuff), Sophie Neveu. Together they have to solve the crime – who, why, what – as soon as possible before things get worse
