iPhone, Nokia N95 & Nokia N810

Posted by on May 31, 2007  |  No Comments

Are you addicted to your phone? I guess I am. I use it mainly for calling and sms-ing. But sometimes, i use it to access wap sites like Gmail or Yahoo if i need to get some information fast.

I kinda hate it tho when mobile website that I access using my phone looks messed up, take ages to load because of huge graphics or wrong formatting. How are websites able to provide mobile marketing if they dont even ensure that their WAP sites are user friendly?

I think that companies should not only focus on sms marketing but also on mobile marketing because users are getting more technology concious and user more advanced phones and internet connections so they have to ensure that their WAP sites are informative and easy to use.

Speaking of which, I was reading this article the other day about Mobile Web which states that mobile devices like the iPhone, Nokia N95 8GB and the Nokia N810 are making mobile web easier due to its wide screen and compatibility to run browsers – like my favourite Mozilla.

The article predicted that Mobile Web might take off in the near future as compared to only 15% this year. I think for Malaysia, Mobile Web hasn’t really taken off due to the quite expensive rates of mobile internet and also the devices used.

Test Recipe : Choc Chip cookies

Posted by on May 31, 2007  |  2 Comments

I’ve been wanting to try out the chocolate chip recipe from this website Choc Chip Perfection and finally got round to doing it the other day.

Wendy Gaynor’s ‘Perfect’ Chocolate Chunk Cookies
8 ounces (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
4 cups semisweet chunks (preferably imported). {I used chocolate chips – but only 2 cups coz I forgot to buy more}

chocchip1a.jpg chocchip1b.jpg chocchip1c.jpg chocchip1d.jpg

1. Place the butter in a large bowl and cream at high speed until fluffy. Add the sugars and beat until light and fluffy, about 4 minutes, scraping down sides of bowl occasionally. Beat in eggs, one at a time, until completely mixed. (pic 2 & 3)

2. In a separate bowl, mix flour, salt and baking soda. Add to the butter mixture at low speed until just combined and add vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed, scraping bowl down, until blended. Do not overmix.

3. Add chocolate chunks and mix till thoroughly combined. Refrigerate batter until cold, preferably overnight. {I only left it for like 10 minutes coz I was rushing for time}(pic 4)

4. Preheat a conventional oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit or a convection oven to 300 degrees {I put 170 degrees celcius in my microwave with the BAKE function}, and line several baking sheets with parchment paper. Drop heaping spoonfuls of batter 2 inches apart on the lined baking sheets and bake, turning tray once, until golden brown around edges and soft (but not bubbly), about 9 minutes in a convection oven or 12 in a conventional one. Cool on a wire rack.

Yield: 36 to 72 cookies, depending on size.{I forgot to count how many pieces I made and forgot to take a pic of the finished cookies}

icednyior_babak2.jpg

How did i find it? Well the cookies were kinda flat and had a bit too much salt and sugar. The 2 cups of chocolate chips were not enough. Besides that, the cookie is delicious. Its not the hard type of cookie like famous amos or the huge soft one like Bakin’ Boys or Mrs Fields, but something in between, crunchy but a lil soft in the middle and when you bite into the cookie, the chocolate chips are melted…ahhh

I probably would try this recipe again but make these modifications to the ingredients.

1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups all-purpose flour 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
4 cups semisweet chunks (preferably imported)

**Refridgerate the dough!!**

Happy baking~

Advertlets Review

Posted by on May 31, 2007  |  4 Comments

Advertlets, the catchy ‘household name’ among bloggers. If you’re a blogger and you have not heard of it, then please get out of your tempurung (coconut shell) and take a peek into the topics that create a buzz in the Malaysian Blogosphere.

Why did I join Advertlets? When i first found out that it was possible to make money through blogs i was sceptical to say the least. Then I found out that some friends were actually making money through blog advertising – but mostly those overseas (which pays through PayPal or other methods not accepted in Malaysia) incur extra costs for handling, transferring the money to a local bank account and service charges.

Secondly is that international blog advertising are more for international (particularly US) readers – selling items such as hammocks and promoting contests in the US – which are not relevant to my (mostly) Malaysian readers.

However, these problems are eliminated with Advertlets because it is a local company and the payment would be easier and the adverts would be aimed towards local readers.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
They call themselves Asia’s Better Blog Advertising Network, and not without reason. These are three of the many reasons why I like Advertlets
(1) User Friendly Website – First impressions are everything, so their website is the first step to impress the bloggers and advertisers. It has a very asthetically pleasing look with easy and functional buttons – very user friendly. I love how everything is just a few clicks away. The logo is also cute and the featured blogger showcases the best and interesting bloggers in the Malaysian (and in the future Singaporean) blogosphere.
advertlets.jpg
(2) Local Content – The ads in advertlets are relevant to bloggers in Malaysia. There are currently two advertisers involved with Advertlets. One of which is Mindvalley who were looking to recruit programmers, bloggers, researchers and designers. The other is Digi, the yellow telco provider who wanted to promote their Digi Fu-yoh Street Blast in East Malaysia. More info >>
(3) No Traffic Requirements – Certain other blog advertising services pose restrictions that require that you get at least 20 unique hits a day for a week before the blog is approved. For advertlets, there is ZERO minimum traffic requirements. So even if you are just starting to blog and your blog is not that famous yet, you can participate! More info >>
Shayna Zaid @ Alexis
Posted by on May 27, 2007  |  2 Comments
i finally went for my first live performance (which is not in a club) at Alexis Bistro, Ampang at Great Eastern Mall.
Me: im goin for my first live performance
(=FAF=): What live performance?
(=FAF=): Petaling Street Blog Convention Presentation on Social Re-engineering?
Me: http://alexis.com.my/html/content.php?id=33
(=FAF=): You sing?
Me: no~!
Me: thats someone else la
Me: bangang
(=FAF=): Hahaha
(=FAF=): But you said your “first live performance” so I thought….
(=FAF=): I thought you were performing
(=FAF=): Which surprised me immensely, to say the least
Me: ……
A invited Pam and I to Alexis, Ampang to listen to a live performance by Shayna Zaid. Who’s Shayna Zaid you ask? I quote from Alexis’ website :
New York based Malaysian, Shayna Zaid’s unique and mesmerizing vocal chords will captivate you. Her soulful voice is unmistakably powerful, yet tender, strong yet sweet, and mature beyond her years. Shayna’s genuine ability to draw you into her lyrical world will leave you grounded, uplifted and inspired. Her sound is commercially modern, yet authentic and timeless.
I was soooo hungry coz i woke up late and didnt hv lunch or dinner. A smsed us to make sure we would be at Alexis at 9.30pm and we were there on the dot (which is like seldom :P) and he was still on the way :-w
Oh well, we went in first and drooled over the menu (it was my first time there) but decided not to order until the A and his friends came. Just ordered iced chocolate and stilled water i.e. plain water. Finally they all came -1 couple, another girl and 3 guys – and we ordered our food. The band (2 guitarist & 1 drummer) did the opening act then Shayna sang a few songs.
How was the night?
I liked Alexis because of the ambiance, such a nice place to have a quiet romantic dinner (not on weekends tho because it’ll be packed). The food was okay. I had the spaghettini seafood packet which came wrapped up in a paper (like for ‘tapau’ing lol!) and pam had the Alexis platter – slices of french loaf, lebanese bread, popiah, meat patties, dried tomatoes and various sauce. My pasta was kinda biasa but had lots of prawns (not the freshest prawns I had), mussles and sotong calamari. The rest had some pasta and chicken pie ( the soup with the pastry thing like in Dome). Pam’s popiah was too salty. The wine we had was quite good. We had like 2 glasses of white wine.
Why no pics? Num 1, it was a bit dark in there. Secondly, and most importantly, we were with a bunch of anak orang kaya – anak² datuk, young ppl who stayed overseas (Melbourne), young ppl who smoked cigars – so kinda segan to be like all sakai and taking photos.
Shayna Zaid is a really good singer and has a fantastic voice. Very passionate on stage and hyper. She has a sweet image. Her lyrics seem to be very close to her heart – to the point that she was in tears during one song.
We bought her CD and she signed it. Been ages since i bought a CD. LOL!
shayna2.jpg
This pic is for you Al! :P I kno u think she’s hot
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After that, A ajaked us to CynnaBar at Heritage Row so we went for a little while. Was kinda boring. Songs were not so good (plus it was house) and we didnt know anyone except A. Plus I got a bit offended by A’s remark. I said “Hey A, how many glasses hv u drank? See im finishing my first glass already.” and he said “Hold (control yourself) on the bottle, I bought it for someone else“. Well hello?!? You offered drinks for us in the first place. Cant you even make a more tactful remark? As if i’m going to finish it. I wasnt the only person drinking it okay! Damn rude for him to say that.

We went home soon after and stopped by Idaman to makan (earlier food wasn’t that filling). On the way back, Pam was camwhoring all the way, we even took pics when we stopped for a red light. LOL!

That wraps up my weekend. How was yours? :)

At World’s End : A Review

Pirates of the Caribbean : At World’s End is the 3rd movie after the original Pirates of the Caribbean Movie. It is scheduled to come out tomorrow. A few companies organized gifts and competitions for this movie but I didnt participate in any.However, I knew cineleisure has shows from 9pm onwards. I dropped by cineleisure after lunch and bullied forced belanjad invited Afdzal to go watch this movie with me – and also go buy the tickets earlier – hopefully around 9.30pm. It was around 4pm and all the tickets were sold out (minus the front seats but of course who wants to sit there) except for the 12.30am show.

cineleisure1.jpg

After some debating, we decided, oklah we go see the 12.30am show and took the couples seat coz its at the back and has more space (and is the same price anyway). I was a bit surprised at the price tho, RM12. Thats pretty steep for Wednesdays but then again it was the opening day or premiere of a new movie. So he picked me around midnight and we went down to cineleisure, got a popcorn and we went to watch the movie.I was so smgt to sms Evie to ask if the movie was good, coz i tot she was going to watch the night show today. But apparently she was only goin to watch tommorrow and was about to sleep and hv sex (her words not mine). Hehe! I threatened to sms her every 5 mins tomorrow to tell the story.

cineleisure2.jpg

It was the first time I watched a midnight movie here and I was quite dissapointed by the service. Coz firstly, when they started projecting, the film was blur (but only the intros like the THX and Dolby Digital adverts), lucky it was all right when the movie actually started. Then secondly, the movie suddenly stopped in the middle with a blank screen and all the lights came on and those hotel-lounge-intrumental-music came on which was really potong stim i tell you! Summore it was at an interesting part. Demmit!

So yea, the following is my review and might hv some spoilers (ok in some cases, i kinda forgot names so just describe them)…click SHOW

Click here to show spoiler

So how did Jack get rescued and what did the pirates do to face up to the British? I guess that’s up to you to go and watch the movie to find out!
