All Max Truemont (Josh Holloway) wants is a chance to make a fresh start with his fiancee Roxanne (Sarah Wayne Callies) … but a bank loan is not easy to get when you’re a felon who’s previously been convicted of manslaughter. Max’s last resort – and only remaining choice – is to team up with two shady associates hired by an absent mastermind to kidnap the son of one of the richest women in the state. As they await ransom instructions, the group begins to turn on each other as past suspicions, betrayals and secrets inexplicability come into play. When the escalating events take a horrific turn, it soon becomes apparent to Max that the child may not be the innocent he first appeared to be.

I watched Whisper at Cineleisure after buka puasa the other day. It stars Josh Holloway – who acted as Sawyer in Lost – and Sarah Wayne Callies who acted as Dr Sara Tancredi in Prison Break. This movie is a thriller which didnt quite make the cut. Yes there was some suspense and shocking parts where I did jump in my seat, but it lacked the climaxing not *that* kinda of climax moment.

Josh Holloway seriously needs to work on his emotions face. Come on! Expressionless ok! Like a poker face. His lines all lack meaning and feeling. Sarah Callies always seems to have that deer-caught-in-headlights look. Why lahhh whyy?? I cant help thinking about her role as Sara Tincredi (and also the very yummy Wentworth Miller) – same damsel-in-distress-omg-i-need-help kind of character. But Blake Woodruf as David (the kid who got kidnapped) was superb with his haunting eyes and sharp stare.

The basic plot of the movie could be improved to be better. There should more background information about the characters and how they got to that point. And Roxanne’s role should be expanded more – she is basically just there for show in the movie, to fill in the vacancy for a female character. I guess, the only interesting twist in the storyline was the secret Rox has which is only revealed at the end of the movie.

Ooo….I watched the newest episode of Heroes (season 2) yesterday and it was good. It picks up where the previous one left off but 4 months later. They introduced a few new characters…and….well you just gotta watch it yourself. I don’t want to give spoilers. Have fun!

Frozen moments

Posted by on September 26, 2007  |  2 Comments

Dont you miss the feel of real photos? Not printed digital photos, but photos printed from an actual roll of film. I miss looking at those photos and laughing at some of the candid photos, for example my mom’s photos are always of her closing her eyes (due to the flash i think) or a shot at bad timing where everyone wasn’t ready yet.

Remember the glossy finishes and slightly sticky feel? When I was younger, that I was taught to keep the photos properly, not facing each other because the photos may stick to each other and spoil them. When I was at Mel’s house a few years back, I saw that she arranged her photos in a very interesting way called scrapbooking. This is where photos are arranged and decorated with colourful backgrounds, cutouts, stickers and designs. Go to this website to find many scrapbook page ideas.

Now with the popularity of digital photography and Photoshop, we can recreate that on our computer by editing and copy pasting far more intricate designs than before. However the best thing about digital photography is that you can snap an unlimited number of photos, look at them thru the display and delete or I love snapping photos because I find that it’s a way to freeze that moment in time. Taking pictures of life that passes around me is a favourite pastime, especially when I’m bored.

Turning Twenty Two

Posted by on September 25, 2007  |  12 Comments

Turning 22 doesn’t have the pomp and circumstance of turning 21, nor does it have the sweet girl-turns-to-women feel of turning 16. Its perhaps just another step to the big three-oh where we are expected to have successful careers, happily married to an adoring husband and (mayb) have an bunch of adorable kids. Which is still (thank god!) light years away.

I think that birthdays are a time to look back, to reflect on what the past year has been. I always believe that the there are always improvements from the last year. So what has changed? I’ve said goodbye and/or cut down on a few things

  • seks rambang (just kidding!)
  • staying out late every night – now its usually weekends or 3 times a week
  • clubbing every nite – cut down to about once in a month (on average)
  • getting drunk – same as above

Been concentrating more on work and trying to go out late nights only on weekends. Im waiting to see how the year ahead will be for me…im actually particularly worried about final project and graduating.
Anyway, Thanks for all the wishes from everyone. I got a few smses – one from as far at NZ (thx yappy!), MMSes from Sarawak (thanks Grace!), online msgs, frenster testimonials, myspace comments and facebook wall contengs.

Looking forward to a small makan2 on saturday with some friends. Yey!

Cash Only Please

Posted by on September 24, 2007  |  6 Comments

My birthday is coming up next week and I’m having a small makan2 with a bunch of close friends at my house. I wish I could have this big bbq party with free flow of alcohol and an neverending array of food and invite loads and loads of ppl and friends, but coz Im still not making rm300 a day in blogging or have a rich and very generous (if not generous also no point) sugar daddy, I cant do so :(

Anyway, some people were asking about presents. I prefer if presents are useful and meaningful. Yes I know its the thought that counts but still, do you want the present that you give to someone be put aside, shoved under a bed or in a dark closet, or (unshamely) give it to someone else as a present or worst, throw it away.

Phuket here I come!

Posted by on September 17, 2007  |  2 Comments

I love traveling! Its fun to experience a new culture, and take in the people, the sights, the sounds and the smells. I especially love the planning part of the trip and the anticipation of it all – what will we do, what to bring, where to visit and of course most importantly where to stay.

Im planning to go to Langkawi during the first week of November for a weekend of fun times with friends, booze and the beach then I’m planning to go back to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to attend Mag’s wedding in July.

But what I’m really excited about is my upcoming trip to Phuket on 31st Jan 2008. I just got my tickets (which was around rm320) and so far even though only Pam and I have got our tickets (we wanted to buy them early to get them cheaper), I’m sure many more people will decide to join us.

What we haven’t decided was where to stay. Thank goodness there is a place online to make Hotel Reservations. I just keyed in the destination and the dates I wanted to go and walah! I got a list of more than 10 hotels/resorts to stay in. And, the great thing about using that website is that there are special promotions and discounts available. One resort in Patong beach was only $48/night. Isn’t that cheap?

So, when’s your next vacation?

Review : Hairspray [2007]

Posted by on September 15, 2007  |  3 Comments

hairspray poster

Set in Baltimore during the 1960s dance TV craze, a zaftig high school hair hopper, Tracy Turnblad, graduates from outsider to celebrity trendsetter and along the way she stars on “The Corny Collins Show,” wins the heart of resident hunk Link Larkin and kicks down the barriers for black and white integration on local television.

What the hell is “zaftig”?!? Anyway, initially when Pam invited me to watch hairspray I was a little hesitant – thinking it might be boring but after a second thought, I decided, hey! it’ll be a fun musical and its really been a while since I watched a musical. The last was Phantom of the Opera (which im not really sure can be considered a musical) which my parents ended up whistling/humming/singing the theme song for the next few days – but that’s another story :P

This movie – come to think of it, it shouldn’t be called a movie but actually a musical – was set back in the 1960s with the big teased hair, teen bopper kinda music, puffed up skirts, and slicked back hair. And yes, the characters do burst into song every 5 minutes (quote from Jef, “more often than a hindustan movie”) and yes, they do dance around the set, pusing pusing and what not – only that they are not using saris. Haha!
