First look at Firefox 3

The Firefox 3 was up for downloads around 1am Malaysian time but the site was down – possibly coz too many people were accessing it. Firefox phailed. LOL!

Anyway, here’s my quick review. It was really easy to switch to Firefox. Everything was automated, including importing bookmarks and such. The first obvious problem will be the compatibility of Add-Ons.

As you can see from my list above, the unsupported addons in my list are CoComment, FireFTP, Iget, Super DragAndGo and TabMixPlus (more on this later).

• CoComment is a plugin that tracks all your comments on websites (so that you don’t hv to subscribe and get lots of email) – but there’s a bookmarklet so I guess I can live with that
• FireFTP is a built in FTP program. Looks like I have to find a standalone one :/
• Super DragAndGo allows me to highlight any text that is a link and just click and drag to open it in a new tab. I have to do it manually now :(
• Iget lets me download a file eg if i want to download a swf from a website, i usually just check the code and copy the url of the swf and use Iget to download it. This one also have to do it manually now
• Tab Mix Plus has many more features for tabbed browsing. Two which I really like are opening new tabs next to the old one and scrolling the tabs using the mouse wheel. Fixed : Get the dev version that is compatible with Firefox 3 HERE.

I really like the look and feel of Firefox 3. Everything looks much cleaner and streamlined. The Back and Forward buttons are HUGE and easier to press now. You can make it smaller like what I did by right clicking on the bar and selecting Customize and checking the Box “Use Small Icons”

If you’re wondering where’s my File, Edit, Tools, etc buttons, I used this addon called Tiny Menu which compressed everything into a dropdown Menu which is only visible when I press the MENU. Then I moved all the Navigation buttons, and the address and search bar up. Then I disabled the Navigation Bar so that I’m only left with two rows – one with all the navigation & address/search bar and another with the bookmarks.

I also like the Smart Location bar which instantly looks for the nearest possible link to what you’re typing. Usually it shows the recent pages but this one shows your bookmarks (with a Star) as well. Convenient.

Firefox 3 also has a better built in downloader which allows you to continue your download after you’ve closed the browser or if your internet connection is down. That doesn’t really effect me coz I use IDM to download my stuff but its useful incase of a crash.

Here are some modifications/hacks I did:

• Resized that huge Back/Forward button
• Downloaded Tab Mix Plus dev version from this site
• Set Gmail as my default mail client. Meaning when i click any email address it will open Gmail and not Outlook. Tutorial [here].
• I also enabled Spellcheck into one-line input fields – open about:config, set layout.spellcheckDefault value to 2
• Enabled pasting multilines into input boxes. Tutorial [here]

Visa Gift Cards

You know how some stores like Borders have gift cards? Come to think of even some restaurants like McDonalds and Starbucks also have those. The bad thing is, you can only use those gift cards at places that issued them.

Sometimes I wish that I could use those gift cards in other places. Well you can by buying Visa Gift Cards. Think disposable visa debit cards. Convinient. Not only that you can even put your own picture to customize it for family or put your logo to give to your customers.

Worst timing ever

They say bad luck comes in threes. I don’t believe in that. However, I do think that Murphy’s Law does ring true (meaning that everything that go bad will)

• I have my period – which makes me feel really headachy and also flu-ish. Basically it just makes me more tired than usual.
• I’m trying to complete my project and just realized that I don’t have the source files I needed for it and I can’t download it from the internet and I asked all my classmates who were online but none has/wants to give it to me
• I have a final exam tomorrow

There, three things only rite?

Wrong.

Just when I thought things could not get worst, the best and happiest thing in my life now shattered into pieces in front of my eyes. Not anyone’s fault of course. I knew it was coming sooner or later, just never expected it to be this soon, or at this particular time.

I’m going to have really bloodshot and puffy eyes tomorrow *sigh* Not expecting much of anything anymore now. Just want to get everything settled and curl up in my bed to wallow in self pity and cry myself to sleep. Either that or drink that collection of alcohol bottles underneath the sink.

For Disney Fans

I grew up with a lot of influence from Disney. From storybooks to colouring books to movies, my parents believed in giving me wholesome entertainment. I was excited to find that Beauty and the Beast musical is coming to town! Yay! ‘ve always loved musicals, the great lyrics, the beautiful singing, the well choreographed dancing. Too bad I’m broke now if not I’d get tickets instantly.

You know what would be even better? Going to New Jersey. Here are some things to do in New Jersey : Vacationing in Morey Piers and attending the Radio Disney Summer Concert Series. Its one of the many Wildwood events this year. Best part is, its totally FREE! So all I’d have to pay is the accommodation at Cape May hotels.

This show is going to feature Disney Celebrities such as Raven-Symone from Disney Channel’s “That’s so Raven” and the currently showing Walt Disney movie, “College Road Trip” starring Martin Lawrence and Raven-Symone. The July 26th concert will also feature Mitchell Musso from the “Hannah Montana Show”.

In order to install the High definition audio driver we must install Microsoft HD driver.

Down in the dumps

I’m feeling very demotivated lately. I’m not sure if its the stress of exams or not. I’m sure a few of my friends have heard me saying that I want to defer my final sem and re-do it next sem. They think I’m joking.

This week or so, I have no drive and no energy to do anything. My mom would call it being malas. But its not that I’m malas. Its just that for some weird reason my heart is not into this. I’m not eating properly, I’m not sleeping properly. I feel like drawing the curtains so that its nice and dark in my room and curl up underneath my comforter and sleep for months.

This is the first time I have so many projects lined up all at one time. I missed the deadline for one of it already. One of the major ones. And that one also I couldn’t do it perfectly because I have no idea how to. I’m sending it in today, a week overdue. Basically, every bit of my work for the finals is half-heartedly done.

All this makes me wish that instead of projects, I have exam papers – like students in other courses. Projects all at one time overwhelm me. With exams, making notes and memorizing and cramming is what I do best.

When I tell people about this, all they say is, “wait till u start working. It’s even harder. Study life is your honeymoon life – enjoy memanjang”. Well, fuck you la! I’m sure u felt the same way when you were in college/uni. I’m sure at that point of time the world felt like it was going to crash down on you and bury you under its rubble. And studying now is WAAAYY different from the time that you were studying. There was less pressure to succeed and be perfect then.

At this point of time, I would trade anything, yes ANYTHING, to be able to defer my semester without any hassle or my parents making a bit fuss out of it.

I feel miserable *cries*

p/s: If you can’t get me on my phone, don’t be surprised. I need time out.

Theme Change!

I kinda got annoyed with the fixed width of my previous theme Areia Azul which was smaller than 400px and I can’t change it. Plus it was looking a bit too cluttered. So I decided to change themes. It was surprisingly fast to change themes coz I didn’t change any elements of the sidebar so it was mostly copy paste.

I’m currently using Smashing Theme – a simple mainly white with orangey highlights – by DesignDisease. I’m a big fan of DesignDisease’s very colourful free themes such as Illicrimo with its various hues of blues and yellows, GossipCity with its starry pictures (I’ve used the previous two it in my blog before) and Dilecto with its oranges and swirls (but I didn’t like the width of the post content thats why I didnt use it).

I got my cheque from Advertlets

Yey! I FINALLY got my cheque from Adverlets. “But you have no ads on your site?” I hear you say. Well, last year, I had ads in my blog. First Advertlets and, some time after that, Nuffnang (this was before they introduced Glitterati & Titan). After seeing the rather slow trickle of money coming into my account, I decided to withdraw or cash out all RM113.52 of it and delete all the ads. The result was this ad-free blog.

So yea, anyways, finally received the money that I cashed out waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyy back at the end of FEBRUARY. Yes! It took them 4 months to pay me (due to some error or another). Oh well, at least I got my cheque already. Now I can add this to my Travel Fund. Yay!

The question now is : Would I put advertlets ads in this blog? Well, most probably not. I do have it on my other blogs tho and its kinda slow. I still think that Malaysian Blog Advertisting companies isn’t a good way to get fast money. What can I say? I can make a minimum of USD5 on a 100 word post elsewhere :P

I’m cranky and irritable

Yes, what’s new. Especially now that I’ve got tons of work to do. I’m feeling cranky and irritable.

I’m home alone for four days, from yesterday till Saturday. My family went to Jakarta. They’re having a ball of a time over there. The reason I couldn’t go was because I have a deadline this Friday. Its actually a good thing I didn’t go coz I had to go and pick up my exam slip this week.

So yesterday I sent them off at KLIA then dropped by Cyberjaya then went back to Kota Dsara, then he called and asked if we could meet up so I shot off straight to his place (a 40 min drive), went for dinner there. Then I got a call from Aree asking us to play Catan so we went home, took a shower then wen to her place and ended up going home at 2.30am.

Woke up so early this morning to send him off then cleaned up the house – washed all the dishes (the family left with a pile of dishes for me to clean), washed all my clothes and the clothes that’s been left soaking (also left for me to settle), and cleaned my toilet which has been dirty for some time. LOL

*He* tak jadi to come back this evening. He wanted to go back home to rest and do laundry. Like he can’t do it at my house la? Perhaps I’m too much of a distraction? Well, it would hv been nice to tell me earlier like this morning so that I won’t be hoping as much and feeling cranky now.

Oh, and to make matters worst, it rained again this evening while I was sleeping so all my clothes are wet. And it happened also YESTERDAY. Dammit!

p/s: I might not be contactable until Friday because I got lots of work to catch up with so when I do sleep, it will be at weird hours and my phone will be on silent.

p.s.s : Can I say that I’m absolutely so jealous my family is in Jakarta? They’re staying in a 2 bedroom service aprtment in one of the most expensive hotels there – The Ritz Carlton (company’s paying for it coz my dad has a meeting/conf there).
