The book sale of the year was back. The Big Bad Wolf store was having yet another massive book sale. I’ve heard really good things about the book sale early this year and so I was determined to come to this one. It was at Amcorp Mall – 3rd floor (where the cinema previously was).

Planned to go on Friday evening but I couldn’t get away early so decided to go this morning. Was hoping that it being a public holiday, most people would have balik kampung or be at the mosque. Heard “horror” stories about how packed it was on Friday so Sat morning was my best bet.

Youreka! with Bunkface, Malay Mail Relaunch Party & Sanctuary

What a packed night I had on Wednesday. See the post title also so long. haha!

First was the Yahoo! Youreka! Party at KL Live (formally where ruums club was). Its my first time in KL Live (or even ruums, for that matter). Its a really nice open space perfect for events with a huge hall with a stage. The VIP/Media area was at an upper deck.

Best part about the VIP area is the finger food and of course free drinks! Woot! Martell and Beer, cheesesticks, salad, pasta, cakes, etc.

Yet another WordPress Theme

Posted by on November 24, 2009  |  No Comments

FireShot capture #099 - 'The Zestful IcedNyior' - me_zestful_org

I wasn’t too happy at my old theme. its nice and fully customizable – even with the option of change the sidebar to the left or right. But i wanted something more minimal and magazine-like.

So here’s a new theme :D Not done by me (of course). Yes, took out the ads for now. Will decide if I want to put it in later. The new theme has more emphasis on my twitter feeds – because I’m quite active there now. It also has Asides, so that I can share short snippets.

Might be editing it more as time progresses. Don’t like the fact that the recent post’s image is not automatically grabbed like the recent posts/featured.

Comments and feedback much appreciated

wefollow_malaysia
WeFollow is a site where you can tag your twitter account to certain tags such as Malaysia, web design, marketing, etc.

Anyway, they recently added a Most Influential list. The screenshot above shows the Most Influential tagged under Malaysia. Big names such as staronline, tekong, hongkiat, nikicheong, theBackpackr, blogjunkie, mohdismail, kidchan, khailee and MalaysianLife is in the top 10. Im not, but 11th place is good enough :D

Its still quite a mystery how they calculate it tho. Does anyone know?

Movie Review : 2012 Exclusive Premiere (No spoilers)

Posted by on November 12, 2009  |  1 Comment

Centuries ago, the Mayans and other ancient civilizations predicts the year 2012 to be the destruction of the world.

Fast forward to current time: We see Jackson Curtis (John Cusack) struggling author, divorcee and part time limo-driver trying to spend time with his kids who mainly live with their mother and her plastic surgeon (focusing on boobs) boyfriend.

We also see a young Scientist Adrian Helmsley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) who, with his team has been predicting the destruction and trying to find a solution to work around it while preserving mankind.

That’s a quick summary I can make without giving too much spoilers.

My company had a corporate screening of the movie 2012 on Tuesday (10th Nov) – two days before the official premiere date on 12th November. We had an excess of tickets because some people didn’t turn up so I got to watch this movie in GSC Gold Class, albeit the first row.

Since the movie is coming out today in Malaysia, here’s my review:

2012

I must applaud the awesome effects. In this movie you will see explosions, lava, volcanos forming out of flat land masses, massive clouds of smoke in the air. The earth opened up, splitting in many pieces and buildings collapsing into this gaping hole.

This movie is rated PG13 if I’m not mistaken so there isnt too much gore but you will still feel sad when you see the lives that are lost, falling off buildings, crushed by concrete, etc.

2012

The storyline focuses on what man will do in times of desperation. Would you be selfish and think of yourself? Or would you be compassionate? Clearly it shows that in the face of destruction , prejudices like race, age, rank and finances are secondary.

The movie is a bit long, about two hours or so but in that span of time, i was entertained – laughing at the jokes "Pick up your big butt for me baby" and sad at the touching moments and feeling full of hope in humanity during one of the character’s speech.

The only thing I didnt like about this movie was how the hero , Jackson Curtis, was too good to be true – everything he did turned out exactly like expected. Also, being a doomsday movie, the ending was very predictable.

All in all, I’d give it a 6/7 over 10 Rating.

So what will you do if it was the end of days?

My Christmas Crazy Roommate

Posted by on November 6, 2009  |  No Comments

Did you notice that shops are starting to sell Christmas-y stuff even though its only early November? Even all those beauty companies are starting to have Christmas promotions and all that. Mampos la. How will i ever survive? Get cash advance loans? I don’t even have a credit card – which is probably a good thing, especially with my addiction to online shopping. Haha!

Okay back to the subject. Way back when I was in uni, I had this roommate who was utterly nuts about Christmas. She actually felt the Christmas spirit as early as July!! So when I got into the room after a long day at class, or to take a nap when I had long breaks in between classes, there she’ll be, playing songs like “I saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus” and “Silent Night” on her laptop and singing happily to herself.

Once, she even organized an exchanging Christmas gift thingy at the end of the year and forced encouraged us to participate. We did and she was most excited of all. She even piled up the gifts at one corner, took a camera to take a photo of the gifts and said (probably out of habit), “One, Two, Three, Smile!!”. Yes, she asked a pile of gifts to “Smile”. We really cracked up on that one.

Well, I would admit that it was fun. Always nice to give gifts to the people you care about. Ah, now I have about two months to think about what to give to the family and close friends. Hurm…

Freebies : The Face Shop, Giant Kota Damansara

Posted by on November 3, 2009  |  No Comments

tfs_ci

Giant recently opened in Kota Damansara some months back and The Face Shop opened a small outlet there. I popped by last week just to look see. Then the promoter said that if I gave my name and phone number they would register me in their system and then every time I went to that outlet, I can take samples (even if its everyday).

I got the Migamsu Brightening Rice Water Cleansing Foam sample (which is very nice) and will write a review in my beauty blog soon. I went to Giant last weekend and took another sample – this time its the Eco Vert Extreme Moisture Serum & Eco Vert Extreme Moisture Cream. Haven’t tried it yet though.

So yea, girls, go down to TFS at Giant Kota Damansara and pick up your samples. This is valid till end of December 2009 so hurry :D
