Malaysian Twitter Users put Rais Yatim on Trending topics #yorais

“Malaysians, especially Muslims, must avoid being totally immersed in the internet culture, especially Facebook and Twitter, said Information Communication and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim.

He added that facilities like internet could not be accepted wholly because it was a form of business introduced by the West and “Malaysians were just users.”

As can be expected, the Msian Twitter-ers are not happy and came up with a hashtag #yorais that talks about how old, ancient and backward thinking he is.

And the best part, it made it in the current top trending topics in Twitter. Here’s a screenshot for proof. LOL! Malaysia & Twitter boleh?

Nokia Music Explorer : Morning Anthems

I’m sure everyone has a morning anthem – A song that they really like and gets em going in the morning. Listening to your morning anthem gives you semangat to start the day. Here are two of mine.

Robbie William – I Will talk and Hollywood Will Listen
This was a fren’s morning anthem, he played it every morning and because I hitched a ride from him to my college, I had to listen to it as well. After a few days, its clear why. Its a powerful song to encourage yourself that even a big entity like Hollywood will listen to you.

The chorus goes, "I will talk and Hollywood will listen/ See them bow at my every word/ Mr. Spielberg look just what you’re missing/ Doesn’t that seem a little absurd/ Bow at my every word "

Ke$ha – Tik Tok
I know this is a weird turn frm something classic like Robbie Williams but this is such an upbeat and happy song in the morning. Not to mention it makes reference to Jack, as in Jack Daniels, one of my fave drinks. LOL!

The first verse goes : "Wake up in the morning feeling like P Diddy (Hey, what up girl?)/ Put my glasses on, I’m out the door – I’m gonna hit this city (Let’s go)/ Before I leave, brush my teeth with a bottle of Jack/ Cause when I leave for the night, I ain’t coming back

Craft Brews Brewhouse and Restaurant Party

At the end of last year, I received from Craft Brews for their Bloggers/January/Call-it-whatever-you-want party. For those of you who have not heard of Craft Brews, they opened mid December in Mutiara Damansara behind Proton and right next to Tesco & Petronas Station.

CRAFT BREWS is the new restaurant in town and it is anything but your regular beer and grub joint. This unique new outfit introduces the long-awaited brewhouse concept to Malaysia.

The non-halal restaurant comfortably seats 45 people indoors, and an additional 88 at the outdoor terrace for those who prefer to wine and dine al fresco. The extensive menu offers a variety of mouth-watering dishes, all designed to complement your pint of beer.

CRAFT BREWS will be serving four draft and 10 bottled beer selections where two coloured beers from the Singapore-based Reddot Brewhouse will be the restaurant’s signature, premium beers. This coloured duo – the Monster Green Lager and English Ale – will be served fresh on tap.

We were served dinner but I’ll talk more about that later. Then we had a beer tasting session. Apparently I actually know the guy who conducted it, Ben, who I met last Raya at Arai’s. I’m not a beer enthusiast so to speak (I prefer hard liquor myself) but it was interesting. Look at the pic above, the green ones is Monster Green Lager (light and one of my faves) and the reddish one is English Ale (pretty strong). Beer tasting is very similar to wine tasting. Swirl a small amount in a glass to aerate it a bit then look at the colour. Here are a few tips:

• To fully taste the flavour of the beer, you have to sip in some air as you sip in the beer. Try it! it seriously tastes different than just chugging it down.
• Beers that are light in colour are usually more hoppy tasting
• Beers can have other things added in them such as orange peel,or herbs. The green beer above, their famous “Green Monster” is brewed with spirulina (but there’s no yuckky spirulina taste, I can assure you)
• Salty and Sweet stuff compliments certain beers, depending on personal preference. Food in Craft Brews are specially prepared to compliment the beer they are serving

Honey Mustard Ribs, Tex-Mex Ribs, Homemade Potato Wedges & Eggplant “Chips”

I personally like the Honey Mustard Ribs with its sweet and slightly tangy sauce. The Tex-Mex is a bit spicy but nicely marinated in spices. Both ribs are big (in the pic u can see that its almost the diameter of the plate) and tender, fall off the bone. The Potato wedges are big and coated with batter. Very nice. The Eggplant “Chips” were anything but chips. This one had an Asian taste to it. Its like eggplant fried with small shrimp, onion and a bit of chilli.

Our goodie bag was really unique. Its a container with a Beer pass for 1 complimentary beer (1/2 pint) and ingredients to brew beer. From top left is Coriander, Orange Peel, Barley and Brewing Yeast (which I’m told is totally different from baking yeast). Interesting yes? I’ve yet to try it tho :P Has anyone else who went tried it yet?

Anyway, thank you Craft Brews for a night of food and drinks and great company :)

Happy Binary Day!

Some people were asking what does my status mean. Let me give a brief explanation *puts on black thick rimmed glasses*

Binary is a numeric system which uses two numerals to represent all real numbers. While the most common counting system, the decimal system, uses ten numerals, binary uses only 0 and 1.

Each digit in a binary number system therefore represents a power of two. The first digit on the right represents the 0th power, the second represents the 1st power, the third represents the 2nd power, and so on. So the number 1 in the decimal system is represented also as 1 in the binary system. The number 23, by contrast, is represented as 10111 (16+0+4+2+1).

Basically binary is made up of only 0 & 1 and the digit is to the power of two and it adds up. So this year its kinda cool (in a very geeky kinda way) because they are a few dates that look like binary, namely 010110, 100110, 011010 and 101010.

Well today is 100110 which means:

• 10 January 2010
• The hex colour #100110 which is a variation of black (#000000) <—this line is coloured #100110
• In binary it equals the number 38
• Trivia : In the Futurama episode “Mother’s Day” (ep 14/19 of 2nd season), protesters chant “Hey Hey, Ho Ho, 100110″ #

Nothing too overly special or secret, just the geek in me grins because its such a geeky number :D In fact a friend of mine said, “I like binary because its either Yes (1) or No (0), no maybe’s or in between”.

Oh btw, 10 actually equals to “2” which explains my quote above

Four Catholic men and a Catholic woman were having coffee after mass.
The first Catholic man tells his friends, “My son is a priest. When he walks into a room, everyone calls him ‘Father’.
The second Catholic man chirps, “My son is a Bishop. When he walks into a room people call him ‘Your Grace’.”
The third Catholic man says, “My son is a Cardinal. When he enters a room everyone says ‘Your Eminence’.”
The fourth Catholic man says, “My son is the Pope. When he walks into a room people call him ‘Your Holiness’.”
Since the lone Catholic woman was sipping her coffee in silence, the four men gave her a look and said, “Well….?”
She proudly replies, “  have a daughter who is slim, tall, 38-Double D breasts, 24″ waist, and 34″ hips. When she walks into a room, people say,
‘Oh My God!.’

Hehehe! Gah sorry for my lack of proper posts. Been busy with work and getting back into the groove of working life. My bioclock is so out of whack I’m only sleeping at 4-5am every night (morning). Of course the fact that I’m playing Dragon Age: Origins really doesn’t help it :P

Road Trips

When I was younger, we used to take long road trips in my dad’s trusty proton saga. We lived in Miri (top right near Brunei) and would travel down all the way down to Kuching over the course of two days with a stopover at Sibu (somewhere near Sarekei on the map above).

Jewelry, a girl's best friend. Well actually diamonds but diamonds are a part of jewelry too. I would say that im not really one who is particularly crazy about it. I was once upon a time, but other interests took over – makeup for one. I have a whole stash of makeup (and only one face) that I never really use but that's another story.

Anyway, this simple piece is one given by my sister. Green turquoise plastic beads with some "diamond" accents and metal beads. Its surprisingly much much cheaper than it looks. LOL!

*Im still trying to figure out what kind of direction I want to go with this photo a day thing. Plus, I just found out that bloggers are doing Project365 which is exactly what Im doing. Gah, if its one thing I hate, its being lumped together with the crowd. I remembered back when P365 was writing a post a day, not just photos. Oh well, we'll see how lah later.

#twtclub at Zeta Bar

Woot! First night out clubbing for 2010 and it was with my tweeple :D

Organized by @spinzer & @meiyingt (above) #twtclub was the first tweetup for 2010. The venue was Zeta Bar, KL Hilton where we paid RM40 each to open a bottle of Black Label & Chivas + mixers.

It was my first time driving to KL Hilton and I didn’t know that the security was so strict. They moved detectors (not too sure for what) under my car and even asked me to open the boot to inspect it. Parking at KL Hilton is RM8.00 flat rate if you are a patron at any of their restaurants/club/function but you must get a coupon from the receptionist.

A few “special guests” were invited – namely the team (two people turned up) behind @Digi_telco & @StarbucksMY. They were there as individuals and not under their company. It was nice to be able to see the faces behind the twitter accounts.

The band was quite good in Zeta Bar. Can’t remember their name but the male lead was a African American guy frm US (i think), the female singers were from Thailand & Philippines, then the musicians were from South Africa and other countries. Very 1Malaysia 1World. They sang songs from PCD, Lady Gaga, etc.

There are 2 types of people who go clubbing : (1) people who hit the dance floor and (2) the people who watch people dancing & getting drunk while they sit at the side :P I am of the latter. The rest had a great time dancing to various R&B hitz.
