Im sure by now most people have heard about the Accident early at 3.00 – 3.30 am or so today 3 June 2010 that happened at the Cheras – Kajang Highway near the Cheras Taman Pertama Roundabout.
Update 4 : KomunitiKini reports that the victim was 27 year old Sarawakian student, Florina ak Joseph. They also talked to two BHP representatives here who says its a misunderstanding.
Update 3 : KomunitiKini managed to get in contact with BHP or their response. Read a whole story here
BHP government relations manager Abdul Kaiyum when contacted claimed that the BHP attendants refused to open the door for Teo as he was not ‘acting calmly’ when asking for assistance. Neither did they refer to their supervisor because it was past midnight.
In defence of the staff in charge, he said that the two of them previously had been attacked and beaten up by assailants while on duty at the station.
Abdul Kaiyum said that BHP would
hold a press conference over the matter this coming Monday, June 7.
Updates 2 : Bernama ran an article about the accident already
Woman Burnt To Death In Three-vehicle Accident
KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 (Bernama) — A woman was burnt to death in her Myvi car in an early morning accident in Jalan Cheras after another vehicle from the opposite side of the road skidded and hit her car which was then rammed by a three-tonne lorry carrying vegetables.
The accident happened near the Cheras velodrome at 3.30am and police are trying to identify the dead woman from the car registration number.
“From the physical appearance, this accident involves a woman driver,” Kuala Lumpur traffic police investigation officer DSP Abdullah Roning told Bernama.
Abdullah said a Toyota Vios believed to have been driven fast by a 33-year-old man skidded and veered onto the opposite side of the road.
It hit the Myvi car and crashed onto a lamp post, badly injuring both the driver and his female companion.
“The first accident made the Myvi spin a few times and it was hit by a three-tonne vegetable lorry from behind and burst into flames,” he said.
The woman driver, however, was unable to escape and was trapped in her seat and burnt to death.
The lorry driver and his attendant were unhurt.
The injured couple were sent to the nearby Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia medical centre. The remains of the woman were also sent there.

Updates : The authorities have verified that there was an accident involving three cars. Will update when I know more later
It was a freak accident involving a lorry, a Vios and a Myvi. According to witness, Akina Teo in his Facebook note, the Myvi was totally sardined and a girl was trapped inside. He saw a spark of fire at the engine bay so he drove to the nearest BHP to get a fire extinguisher from the attendants who were behind the locked kiosk/counter. They refused to lend him the fire extinguisher and even threatened to report the guy.
He returned back to the scene and the car was totally burnt and the poor girl was burnt alive inside. Read his full account in the spoiler:

FUCK BHP!!!!! FUCK BHP!!! why? let me tell you!!
this morning approx 3.20am, at Cheras Tmn Pertama roundabout,
saw a freak accident, involving a Vios, Myvi and a Lorry.
im one the first badge who arrive, mean it just happen maybe seconds ago.
Vios believe to be turtle and badly damaged. When im passing by the vios, rear passenger started to pull out the front driver and front passenger.
then when i pass the Myvi, the car was totally sardine. Heard one girl was yelling cos piined inside. I stop my car then run towards the myvi to offer a hand while calling 999 emergency line to request for ambulance and bomba.
then saw fire spark at the engine bay of myvi. while still on the phone with emergency line to provide more details, i run back to my car and drive to BHP station which is just less than 500m away from the scene.
then i request for the fire extingusher from the attendant which is kept inside. There was 4 extingusher on the ground. But the attendant refuse to pass to me.
the BHP attendant claimed dat the door cant be open.
then i shout at him, i need it! i want it! someone is pinned inside the car and its started to burn!
then the BHP attendant keep repeating he kenot borrow and open the door.
then i was like WTF! if ur kiosk is burning can u come out? then he replied yes.
then he still say he kenot open the door. Then he say his boss wont allowed to borrow. WTF!!!
then i started to amuk kicking the kiosk and punching the glass of the kiosk.
i even throw my IC to him say that if im dun return u report police.
i saw i borrow.. if i use it i will pay for it. then he keep on just smile at me.
then he ask another partner to come out. Then i start shouting and yelling at them with bad words saying dat if the girl dies you two are the murderer.
then the 2nd BHP attendant shout back at me.
i demand for their names, i told them i would complain bout them,
then the 2nd attendant copy down my number plate and said that all my acts been recorded on CCTV and he gonna report to police tumoro. I challenged him.
then i drove off back to the scene.. the car was totally burning and the poor girl was burn alive inside.
then i spoke to the Bomba and PDRM how many casualties was inside. they told me one girl.
Then i spoke to PDRM about the incident happen in BHP.. then the policemen also scold with anger WTF with them.. if i could get the fire extingushier.. the girl might be saved.
then the Policemen ask me to go police station to report a cover about the BHP, and he assured me that the stupid BHP wont get to report on me.
Personally i would like to ask, how much does 4 fire extingusher cost? isit more expensive than a life?
would like to ask the BHP petrol station’s boss! u cant afford to lose 4 fire extingusher then u better closed down your station!!!! Fuck you boss!!!!
and this is to BHP MALAYSIA!! seens your procedure to keep all safety gadget inside the kiosk… if anything happen during refueling… is your attendant gonna open the door to help? seens he claimed that the door cant be open after hours??
FUCK YOU BHP!!! FUCK YOU!!!
i personally from now on will boycott BHP… i dont know how about you all!!!
gonna give BHP HQ a call tumoro… see what the fuck will they say about this kind of safety measurement they have!!!!!
for the two BHP attendant!!! you are the murderer!!!!!
I saw another blog post that supposedly had the photos of accident and it is terrible. Credits to ondscene (though I dont really like the heavily religious theme of the post) and the photos are in the spoiler.

While I understand the anger of the guy, I don’t agree with his stance to boycott BHP or his call to do so. It is easy enough to target the brand, since people know the brand but it was the fault of the two guys in the station, not the brand.
BHP probably has a safety requirement but I am sure the boss or the CEO will expect their employees to use a lil common sense. Obviously, those two fellas had none.
And I also agree with Vic, the society has taught us not to be so trusting these days. If I saw someone asking for help on a highway, I probably wouldn’t stop myself.
I also expect that if I should be dying on the highway trying to flag a car to help me, I probably expect none to do so.
A what if scenario, if the two guys opened up to help, only to be shot dead or robbed, that story probably wouldn’t get as much attention as this one.
I am sorry a girl died, and I am sorry that we are less trusting these days but is BHP to be blamed? I would say no. Are the two attendants to be blamed? Maybe.

When I heard about this from FlyFm this morning. My heart sank as I recall similar incident happened many years ago along Damansara highway when a few teenagers were burned alive in their overturned vehicle.
Nobody is to blame. We’re living in a sick society now and nobody can be trusted. Do not blame the workers for not providing any assistance. For many times, petrol kiosk and other retail outlets are being robbed by different well planned ‘emergency’ stories.
Do not boycott BHP as they do not run these petrol kiosks. Owners or operators of these kiosk do hold responsibility to train their staff for any emergency cases; however they have to protect their business first.
Let this be a lesson to all of us. Never to drive recklessly on the road and I believe that all Malaysian cars should be fitted with a small car fire extinguisher.
Now seriously, go get yourself a fire extinguisher!

My condolences goes out to the family of the victim in this accident. It really wasnt her fault at all.
I also feel the pain and anger that Mr. Teo must be going through especially knowing that he could have saved a life if it werent for the two attendants at the petrol station.
As someone had posted earlier, society is to blame. I agree completely and I also openly admit that I will have my reserves before helping anyone in need. Everyday we are constantly bombarded with information of scams, cheating, stealing, theft and all other such criminal acts whether its on the papers, on the tele or radio. Naturally my mind now works in a different manner.
Never was I told by the road authorities or road transport authority to have a first aid kit or a fire extinguisher in my vehicle. Nor was I trained to perform first aid, what to do in case of emergencies like these.
First aid and safety is definitely lacking in this country. I’ve seen countless of dangerous acts (whether on the road or off the road). Drivers who dont wear their seatbelts, child seats placed in the front passenger seat, motorcyclists without bukling their helmets in place or even worse not wearing any at all and the list goes on and on.
If it were to me, I blame the authorities for not being stricter on this matter.

Boycott IT Says:
I would have agreed with those who say we should not boycott BHP as they feel tht it is the fault of the 2 on scene and not BHP. BUT look at what this BHP REPRESENTATIVE IS SAYING….
Abdul Kaiyum when contacted claimed that the BHP attendants refused to open the door for Teo as he was not ‘acting calmly’ when asking for assistance”
“In defence of the staff in charge, he said that the two of them previously had been attacked and beaten up by assailants while on duty at the station.”
Cant 2 guys take down one guy who is a “robber”? Dont you have instincts which tell u if a situation is genuine?! Having such a REP that comes out in defence of such a gutless attitude truly calls for a Boycott!! He represents the company and if this is the compay’s stance…then don’t you think it is so inhumane?!

Joy Says:
It always easy to blame others. Is this the culture of Malaysia.
I view this as attitude problem and do not want to get hands dirty. Perhaps the attendants at the BHP kiosk are immigrants … so the enthusiasm will be less. Added with the company policy, do not open the door after midnight, has been used as the excuse.
I have seen one lady being robbed (without armed) in the daylight. My car was blocked on the road and I have made noise by pressing honk to attract the attention of the people who are chatting nearby. They did nothing but just watching and let it happened.
No matter who you Malaysian or not, pls extend your help when needed and use your common sense to make the assessment.

Who is the fault? The root cause of the incident. In this case, it clearly shows BHP is the main cause. Why? If at all BHP has placed quality controls in hiring their staffs, im pretty sure this would not have took place first of all. If this control was placed, definitely the staffs would have at least basic common sense in judging the scenario. Come on la, if the BHP attendants behaved like that, we all know the truth how blur F they are. WHY DID BHP IN FIRST PLACE HIRED SUCH DUNGGU STAFFS? I can bet if the staffs take an IQ test, I doubt they would even score one!!! And you hire such staffs? Why? Want to save cost? See what happened now. After all this happened, BHP got the ‘chick’ to support their DUNGGU BEHAVED staff and not accepting the truth by apologizing. Damn good in pointing fingers. We all know how this incident will be covered up eventually. Do you think they will say the same thing if this happened to their daughter? haaaaaaaaa……then you will see what happens. But in this case, not their daughter what, so what the F and who cares rite? If the staffs are afraid of robbery, just hand over the damn cash and whatever the robbers want. Don’t gamble with life. LOOK WHAT HAPPENED DUE TO POOR QUALITY IN HIRING AT BHP!!!!!!!!!!

IceSky22AIZ Says:
Very well said, Hellforce.
Obviously Teo had no other option than to throw his IC at them? If you were put in a situation where you could decide the life or death of a person, would you really just walk up calmly to the station and go like, “Hey, nice evening. There’s a girl being burnt to death on the highway nearby. Yeah. Its a Myvi. Mind if I borrow your fire extinguisher?”. In my opinion, THAT’S their definition of CALM.
Then again, those 2 attendants might have cooked up a story saying that they thought that Teo was probably a guy who’s losing his mind or something like that. Humans are capable of many things!
I personally don’t take the bullshit about the 2 attendants claiming that they have been ‘beat up by assailants before’. A friend of mine knows Teo, and I’ve seen his profile on a social networking site before. Believe me, he looks NOTHING like a robber at all.
However, I do not deny the fact that each of us WOULD have a little skepticism in a guy who’s suddenly running asking for a fire extinguisher in the wee hours of the morning. With robberies and snatch thefts being so rampant nowadays, we have to always be on our guard.
However, it wouldn’t hurt to inspect a little and just hand over ONE extinguisher. After all, how expensive could ONE of those things be?
So is the cost of a fire extinguisher really more important than that of the girl’s life? Did the 2 attendants really take Teo seriously, or take him for a madman? In that context, do the 2 attendants even take their customers seriously?
Kudos to Teo for his efforts. Not anyone would be willing to give up their IC so simply. But I doubt the images of the accident and the screams of the girl crying for help will ever leave him alone for years to come.
It truly is a traumatizing experience to not be able to do anything and just stand there helplessly while a victim dies right in front of your eyes.

in my opinion,
BHP is not suppose to be blamed la, i agree with the others saying that the 2 workers are to be blame, those 2 were the idiots in this scenario, not BHP. so, boycotting BHP is just a very dumb act to do. Yes, this will have a big impact on BHP’s image but they were working in a petrol station, u dun expect they would think like a degree holder rite?
Abt the 2 ‘idiots’, I have to say, I cant really put the whole blame on them. They have procedure to follow and they were just doing their job. Also, they have that mentality to be unsecured coz Teo might be a brilliant actor to rob the station. Think of it, robbers nowadays are getting smarter and generate better strategies to rob successfully. The 2 workers had been robbed before and obviously they have traumatized issues as well. ‘What if’ Teo was a brilliant actor who had a team of robbers standby and once the door opens, the gang of robbers can simply enter, rob and even kill them. Well, you never know.
Plus, u guys keep commenting that the BHP are bad ppl, those workers are idiot, supervisor is a shithead and bla bla bla. But u guys never realised that the vios driver is the real killer, who drove dangerously, carelessly or maybe drunk that eventually got skidded. Maybe he was driving over the speed limit and no one is fucking him alrite. Teo looking for a fire extinguisher is just a chain reaction and the main culprit is the driver who initiated the accident.

So it is destined. She don’t simply just get out of the world, but she is lucky,
there’s a man who have done what was right, trying to save her. He is Teo.
A brave man who she will not forget.

A paltry rm300 fine by the police and everything else settle by their insurance!? One cannot escape by just saying that this was an accident. the moment i saw tis news in the paper, i felt very sad as a young gal’s life was lost juz because of the 2 petrol kiosk attendants reluctance to lend out the fire extinguisher. but i even felt sadder for the guy (Teo) who will have to live with the memory of being unable to help Florina for the rest of his life. Imagine the trauma & nightmares u will have if it were you…no words would be able to rectify all these..no matter wat excuses or explanantions that the BHP maanagement will want to give in the coming press con on Mon.. nothing can bring back the life that’s lost.. Imagine she’s ur daughter, then Abdul Kaiyum won’t say the same thing.. Imagine it’s some ‘big VIP’ daughter or wife…then wat you’ll read in the paper is another thing…
This is wat we call ‘MALAYSIA’…the country whereby a normal ‘rakyat’ life is not as precious as those VIP…

Firstly we are proud of Akina Teo , at least we know that there is a malaysian who is willing to help.
To Teo :
Don’t feel sorry , you already tried your best .
But please do remember , help within your limit. Don’t
get yourself in trouble.

BHP shouldnt be blamed….. but BHP at tmn pertama , cheras is to be blamed. Why the fire extinguishers are locked inside the retail and not beside the station !! Shell station just above the shit BHP station hangs their extinguishers at every pump ! i just passed by there and realized it ! Maybe we should set up a foundation to donate
some fire extinguisher to BHP tmn pertama cause thier boss is too concern for the extinguisher to be placed outside next to the pump ! BHP petrol shouldnt be boycott , but tmn pertama , YES !

mm…I would like to see how the BHP government relations manager Abdul Kaiyum will reply if we ask him the question “If your loves ones like wife or daughter was burnt alive like that girl..would you say the same thing ? ? “

bloody hell, any refuelling station should have fire retardant and extinguishers AVAILABLE AT ALL TIMES as fire is a constant potential hazard.
NO EXCUSES.
It’s for the same reason that airliners carries cabin crews as safety officers in flights. What? You’re going to not have cabin crews in flight just because dudes are staring at them?
BHP is stupid. That’s plain

What if I set the station on fire at that time, would they come out with the Fire extinguishers ??
Would they let their station burn, coz they are worried of being robbed ? Every station MUST have the Fire extinguishers next to each pump.
Its a fire hazard place no excuses ! They have CCTV recordings, if anyone steals it or abuse it, they can always report to the police !
Govt should make a clear ruling and BHP need to apologies and take actions for the future !
They say Teo was not “acting calmly” STUPID BAFOONS ! If you see someone who nears death and trying to help, how would you react ? Calm ?

I agree with budlee, Boey, and pak belalang.
I love how you other guys are focusing on the incident at BHP only when clearly it was the other driver’s fault. Do remember also that the fire extinguisher MIGHT have been able to save her.
“What if I set the station on fire at that time, would they come out with the Fire extinguishers ??”
- Of course they would. But what has that gotta do with the problem?
“Its a fire hazard place no excuses ! They have CCTV recordings, if anyone steals it or abuse it, they can always report to the police !”
- Yes, I agree it’s a fire hazard to NOT place the fire extinguishers at an accessible area but it’s not about being able to make a report to the police if someone steals them. It’s the fact that most Malaysian employers are abusive towards their employees. Employees like kiosk attendants are afraid of their employers.
This is a result of reckless driving, end of story.
My condolences go out to Florina’s family and friends. Sorry for their loss.

FUCK IT larr….its too late to said anything at this point as wat has happened already happened and we cant change the pass…. BHP & the reckless driver needs to be responsible regarding of this matter and a single apologize will not be enough to solve the problem and my deepest condolences to Florida’s family & friends. Am so sorry to hear this story and sorry for their loss.
