Posted by on September 23, 2010  |  4 Comments

Edit 2 : Rates are correct. Click on Link below to see proper link. If you’re interested, I have made a comparison chart – Digi and Maxis iPhone 4 Comparison Chart.

Edit : That was fast! Digi pulled down the link. It now redirects to their main site. Lucky took screenshot

Found this link on Twitter to the Digi iPhone 4 plans and it shows the new plans that are valid from 24th Sept. Below is a screenshot in case they pull it down

digi_iphone4_rates

As usual, the table is damn confusing. Was it for 24 mths or 12 mths? I bet most of you have seen the plans from Maxis right?

What? You haven’t? Here it is below courtesy of MalaysianWireless.

So which plan is better? And more importantly, which will you choose?

Edit: Come on guys, do I really need to make this disclaimer? Though it was pretty obvious already.

Disclaimer:  Rates above are NOT official as the official media briefing for Digi iPhone 4 plans will be at 6pm Malaysian time today. Screenshot above is what i got frm the link earlier.

Artist Lineup for Arthur’s Day 2010 in Kuala Lumpur (Updated!)

Posted by on August 20, 2010  |  7 Comments

Its that time of the year again! When the chorus of “To Arthur!” will be heard on the streets. Last year 15,000 people rocked to the thumping, trademark tunes of multi-platinum band, the Black Eyed Peas. This year promises a pumped up, hip-hop, rock and R&B energized concert with back-to-back electrifying performances!

Last Tuesday, 17 Aug, I was invited to a Media Launch (as a blogger) where the acts for Arthur’s Day 2010 was revealed! The event was held in @Live in Sunway Pyramid, a newly opened club. Took this pic of the goodie bag when i got home, they gave a glass and a keychain. Cute touch with the glass kan?

The night started off with pints of Guinness. I liked the fact that they had both from the tap and in the bottle cause I know picky drinkers who actually prefer one over the other. After a couple of glasses, Serena C and Adam Carruthers came on stage to kick off the night. (pic credit to The Jessicat)

Soon after, Mark Jenner, The Marketing Director of Guinness Anchor Marketing Sdn Bhd, came on stage to amp up the atmosphere and finally announce who the main artiste is. It was none other than, TIMBALAND!!! The super-producer has created hits for top artists such as Aaliyah, Missy Elliot, Destiny’s Child, Ludacris, Jay-Z and many others. He has also successfully collaborated with numerous music icons such as Madonna, Leona Lewis, Katy Perry, Keri Hilson, 50 cent, etc.

Sean Kingston – After Beautiful Girls made history as one of the fastest ascents up the charts ever, this singer/rapper scored three more top ten hits with Me Love, Take You There and There’s Nothing’. His self-titled debut Sean Kingston topped charts in 21 countries and sold over 1 million copies worldwide.

Flo Rida - Exploded into the music scene with Low (feat T-Pain) in late 2007. This blockbuster debut single picked up a People’s Choice Award and two Grammy nominations. To follow, the lead single of second album, Right Around, went on to become the fastest million-selling digital song ever.

Colby O’Donis – Wrote Mouse in the House for the soundtrack of Stuart Little when he was 9. Started producing music since 12 and, by 14, was opening shows for the likes of Backstreet Boys, Brian McKnight and 98 Degrees. Hard to miss now at 21 with his latest hit What You Waiting For hogging the airtime of Malaysian radio.

Pop Shuvit – Asian’s leading Hip-Hop Rock band with successful releases throughout Asia notably in Japan, Thailand and Singapore.

Thaitanium – With unique blends of Thai language with American Hop-Hop’s street vocabulary, Thaitanium is a popular trio that even performed at the MTV Asia Awards.

MizzNina – Touted as “Malaysia’s Hip Hop Princess”, she recently launched her album which includes the heavily played duet with Colby O’ Donis “What You Waiting For”.

Rumours: Maxis to bring iPhone 4 to Malaysia in August 2010?

Posted by on June 29, 2010  |  5 Comments

Rumours all over twitter today:

This is straight from the horse’s mouth, the animal here being our local Star paper’s tech pull-out InTech.

The report has the Maxis boss telling the paper’s reporter this: ‘Van Overbeke said the iPhone 4 could be available here by August, but declined to provide prices.’

This is only a ‘could’ scenario. It doesn’t confirm that Apple phone is actually going to sell here in that coming month.

The same reporter also wrote: ‘As for the iPad, he said it is possible that Maxis will be distributing the 3G version of the tablet computer.’ That word ‘possible’ can also be roped into the same familial ‘could’.

But at least Van Overbeke is quoted to say, “But it’s really up to Apple at this point.”

A lot of readers, in Star, and in here, genuinely hope Apple decides to let Maxis bring in the iPhone 4 and the iPad. Here’s keeping our fingers crossed.

Source : MobileWorld

Update: I got the TechCentral URL link. The article is titled “Maxis going big on mobile content” (source). Here’s an excerpt:

Van Overbeke said the iPhone 4 could be available here by August, but declined to provide prices. And, he said, Maxis’ data packages for the smartphone “would not be very expensive.”

As for the iPad, he said it is possible that Maxis will be distributing the 3G version of the tablet computer. “But it’s really up to Apple at this point.”

“We were the first to introduce the iPhone to Malaysians and (because of that) some presume that it would be the same with the iPad.

“On the day of the iPad’s international debut, some people started coming in to our sales centres to see if we had stock,” Van Overbeke said.

Still, a positive sign for iPad fans in this country is that Maxis is keen on creating educational applications for the iPad, and is in talks with the Education Ministry to gauge interest and opportunities.

Are you excited about the iPhone 4? I upgraded my 3Gs to iOS4 and is loving it!

Accident on Cheras-Kajang Highway (BHP Incident) – Updated

Posted by on June 3, 2010  |  58 Comments

Im sure by now most people have heard about the Accident early at 3.00 – 3.30 am or so today 3 June 2010 that happened at the Cheras – Kajang Highway near the Cheras Taman Pertama Roundabout.

Update 4 : KomunitiKini reports that the victim was 27 year old Sarawakian student, Florina ak Joseph. They also talked to two BHP representatives here who says its a misunderstanding.

Update 3 : KomunitiKini managed to get in contact with BHP or their response. Read a whole story here

BHP government relations manager Abdul Kaiyum when contacted claimed that the BHP attendants refused to open the door for Teo as he was not ‘acting calmly’ when asking for assistance. Neither did they refer to their supervisor because it was past midnight.

In defence of the staff in charge, he said that the two of them previously had been attacked and beaten up by assailants while on duty at the station.

Abdul Kaiyum said that BHP would
hold a press conference over the matter this coming Monday, June 7.

Updates 2 : Bernama ran an article about the accident already

Woman Burnt To Death In Three-vehicle Accident

KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 (Bernama) — A woman was burnt to death in her Myvi car in an early morning accident in Jalan Cheras after another vehicle from the opposite side of the road skidded and hit her car which was then rammed by a three-tonne lorry carrying vegetables.

The accident happened near the Cheras velodrome at 3.30am and police are trying to identify the dead woman from the car registration number.

“From the physical appearance, this accident involves a woman driver,” Kuala Lumpur traffic police investigation officer DSP Abdullah Roning told Bernama.

Abdullah said a Toyota Vios believed to have been driven fast by a 33-year-old man skidded and veered onto the opposite side of the road.

It hit the Myvi car and crashed onto a lamp post, badly injuring both the driver and his female companion.

“The first accident made the Myvi spin a few times and it was hit by a three-tonne vegetable lorry from behind and burst into flames,” he said.

The woman driver, however, was unable to escape and was trapped in her seat and burnt to death.

The lorry driver and his attendant were unhurt.

The injured couple were sent to the nearby Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia medical centre. The remains of the woman were also sent there.

– BERNAMA

Updates : The authorities have verified that there was an accident involving three cars. Will update when I know more later

It was a freak accident involving a lorry, a Vios and a Myvi. According to witness, Akina Teo in his Facebook note, the Myvi was totally sardined and a girl was trapped inside. He saw a spark of fire at the engine bay so he drove to the nearest BHP to get a fire extinguisher from the attendants who were behind the locked kiosk/counter. They refused to lend him the fire extinguisher and even threatened to report the guy.

He returned back to the scene and the car was totally burnt and the poor girl was burnt alive inside. Read his full account in the spoiler:

I saw another blog post that supposedly had the photos of accident and it is terrible. Credits to ondscene (though I dont really like the heavily religious theme of the post) and the photos are in the spoiler.
