Rumour : Beyonce’s concert in Malaysia cancelled? (Update: Postponed!)

Posted by on October 19, 2009  |  5 Comments

There’s rumours going around in Twitter that Beyonce’s Malaysian concert on October 25th, 2009 might be cancelled. She cancelled her planned concert in 2007 following protest threats by Malaysia’s opposition Islamic party (source).

Most people heard it from someone (an unidentified source, of course) that the Maxis Marketing Manager said it might be cancelled and most likely to be announced tomorrow.

Also, on her site http://www.beyonceonline.com/my/events there’s no event listing of her Malaysian concert. Hurm..

Lets see what happens tomorrow.

Avoid H1N1, Dont Masturbate. Hv Sex Instead

Posted by on August 10, 2009  |  5 Comments

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 9 (Bernama) — Avoiding masturbation and homosexual activities are among preventive measures one could take against Influenza A (H1N1), according to an eminent practitioner of complimentary therapy.

Dr. V. M. Palaniappan said that such activities caused the body to develop friction heat which in turn, produced acid and made the body hyperacidised.
"Thus, the body becomes an easy target for H1N1 infection," he told Bernama, emphasising however, that normal sexual union between members of the opposite sex was absolutely safe.

The former associate professor of ecology at Universiti Malaya has authored several books on complementary therapy called, ‘Ecological Healing System’.
Dr Palaniappan said his 33 years of research had shown that high acidity in the body resulted in loss of immunity, thus making people more susceptible to viral diseases like Influenza A (H1N1).

Hence, to prevent acidity, it was essential to consume alkaline food and drinks that could neutralise excess acid in the body.

Dr Palaniappan recommends coconut water, which is alkaline, and therefore could be used as a herbal medicine for the prevention of H1N1.

For example, he said, those who felt feverish and developed a burning sensation while attending to a call of nature because of extreme acidity, could neutralise it by drinking coconut water, twice a day, for three days.

He also recommended orange, lemon and pomelo which, despite containing citric acid, were very rich in potassium and therefore, would not disturb the body’s immunity.

According to Dr Palaniappan, excessive physical activity like running a marathon should be avoided as it produced acid due to excessive metabolic activity.

Similarly, he said, keeping late nights without adequate sleep and working without proper rest could also increase the body’s acidity which in turn, lowered immunity and made the body vulnerable to viral attacks.

Dr Palaniappan’s blog: http://ecohealingsystem.blogspot.com/ discusses the therapy in more detail.

Yasmin Ahmad, acclaimed Malaysian director, passed away :(

Posted by on July 26, 2009  |  6 Comments

Yasmin Ahmad is the critically-acclaimed multi-award winning film director, writer and scriptwriter from Malaysia and is also the executive creative director at Leo Burnett Kuala Lumpur. Her television commercials and films are well-known in Malaysia for their humour, heart and love that crosses cross-cultural barriers, in particular her ads for Petronas, the national oil and gas company.

Her movies, Rabun, Sepet, Gubra, Mukhsin, Muallaf & Talentime have won multiple awards internationally. Unfortunately due to our censorship board, some of them are not aired here in Malaysia. Even if they are, they are heavily cut :/

She was admitted to Damansara Specialist Center on Thursday (23 July 2009) and was in a critical condition after surgery for a brain haemorrhage. And today (26 July) she passed away just a few hours ago.

I was following her blog at yasminthestoryteller.blogspot.com before she moved to a second blog here. Her movies are all entertaining, heartwarming and inspiring. The last time I saw Yasmin Ahmad was at an Event for Talentime. She looked so happy then.

Malaysia has lost one of its most creative and inspiring minds. Yasmin, may you rest in peace. :’(

Swine Flu (H1N1) in Malaysia?

Posted by on May 5, 2009  |  3 Comments

Oh dear, I hope it wouldn’t reach our shores. There has been a total of three suspected cases so far (two of which turned out negative).

Suspected influenza A (H1N1) case in Sarawak

5 May 09 : 12.57PM

KUCHING, 5 May 2009: A 31-year-old man, who had been travelling to the United States in the last two weeks, was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital’s isolation ward last night after having symptoms similar to influenza A (H1N1).

Health Deputy Director-General Dr Ramlee Rahmat said today the man, a local, returned to Sarawak on 1 May and had fever, cough and flu, symptoms that fit those for influenza A (H1N1), yesterday.

A swab sample taken from the man’s throat was sent to the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) in Kuala Lumpur this morning and the result was expected to be known either this evening or latest by tonight, he said.

The test result would be announced by the Health Minister or Health Director-General.

"We want to know exactly the type of the virus inside the body of that man, it is a necessary precaution," Ramlee told reporters after opening the two-day Healthy Cities Meeting for senior officials from Malaysia and other Asean countries here.

"At the moment, there is only one suspected case in Sarawak and we have activated our public health response to identify those who have been in contact with him to monitor their health," he said.

"Overall so far, including in Sarawak, there were a total of three suspected cases of influenza A (H1N1), with Penang and Selangor having one case each but both were negative," he said.

Earlier, when opening the meeting, he said Malaysia was still free from the deadly influenza outbreak as the government had taken pro-active measures to prevent it from spreading to the country in line with World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines.

"We have the facilities to detect it, no need to worry about it, you will be taken care of," he told the participants of the meeting.

Despite the small presence of medical officials from Asean countries at the meeting due to influenza scare, he hoped that the meeting would meet its objective. – Bernama
