When Ariff said we were watching the seekers movie I was like “huh? seekers? that malay series looking for ghosts?” Apparently its this new movie called The Seeker : The Dark is Rising. According to the sypnosis, it “is the first film adaptation of the Susan Cooper’s acclaimed novel “The Dark Is Rising”. The film tells the story of Will Stanton, a young man who learns he is the last of a group of warriors who have dedicated their lives to fighting the forces of the Dark. Travelling back and forth through time, Will discovers a series of clues which lead him into a showdown with forces of unimaginable power. With the Dark once again rising, the future of the world rests in Will’s hands.”
Basically this movie is about the forces of good and evil fighting and their hero is a young boy who is suddenly given a huge role in which he knows nothing about. I love the setting of the movie, its like in a small village in england with huge manors, little cottages and snow. But i hated the angles, some of it was messy to the point that one or two shots were terbalik. The storyline was also too simple and predictable - light vs dark, time travelling, boy meets girl and falls in love with her, two funny twins in the family (for comic relief), guardian/mentor who doubts that the hero is the right person but is eventually supportive.

- I wouldn’t recommend watching this movie in the cinema, go grab a dvd or something

All Max Truemont (Josh Holloway) wants is a chance to make a fresh start with his fiancee Roxanne (Sarah Wayne Callies) … but a bank loan is not easy to get when you’re a felon who’s previously been convicted of manslaughter. Max’s last resort - and only remaining choice - is to team up with two shady associates hired by an absent mastermind to kidnap the son of one of the richest women in the state. As they await ransom instructions, the group begins to turn on each other as past suspicions, betrayals and secrets inexplicability come into play. When the escalating events take a horrific turn, it soon becomes apparent to Max that the child may not be the innocent he first appeared to be.
I watched Whisper at Cineleisure after buka puasa the other day. It stars Josh Holloway - who acted as Sawyer in Lost - and Sarah Wayne Callies who acted as Dr Sara Tancredi in Prison Break. This movie is a thriller which didnt quite make the cut. Yes there was some suspense and shocking parts where I did jump in my seat, but it lacked the climaxing not *that* kinda of climax moment.
Josh Holloway seriously needs to work on his emotions face. Come on! Expressionless ok! Like a poker face. His lines all lack meaning and feeling. Sarah Callies always seems to have that deer-caught-in-headlights look. Why lahhh whyy?? I cant help thinking about her role as Sara Tincredi (and also the very yummy Wentworth Miller) - same damsel-in-distress-omg-i-need-help kind of character. But Blake Woodruf as David (the kid who got kidnapped) was superb with his haunting eyes and sharp stare.
The basic plot of the movie could be improved to be better. There should more background information about the characters and how they got to that point. And Roxanne’s role should be expanded more - she is basically just there for show in the movie, to fill in the vacancy for a female character. I guess, the only interesting twist in the storyline was the secret Rox has which is only revealed at the end of the movie.

Set in Baltimore during the 1960s dance TV craze, a zaftig high school hair hopper, Tracy Turnblad, graduates from outsider to celebrity trendsetter and along the way she stars on “The Corny Collins Show,” wins the heart of resident hunk Link Larkin and kicks down the barriers for black and white integration on local television.

What the hell is “zaftig”?!? Anyway, initially when Pam invited me to watch hairspray I was a little hesitant - thinking it might be boring but after a second thought, I decided, hey! it’ll be a fun musical and its really been a while since I watched a musical. The last was Phantom of the Opera (which im not really sure can be considered a musical) which my parents ended up whistling/humming/singing the theme song for the next few days - but that’s another story ![]()
This movie - come to think of it, it shouldn’t be called a movie but actually a musical - was set back in the 1960s with the big teased hair, teen bopper kinda music, puffed up skirts, and slicked back hair. And yes, the characters do burst into song every 5 minutes (quote from Jef, “more often than a hindustan movie”) and yes, they do dance around the set, pusing pusing and what not - only that they are not using saris. Haha!

Im goin to go watch this movie tonight…..wait for the review soon!

Synopsis: When investigative reporter Rowena Price learns that her friend’s murder may be connected to powerful ad executive Harrison Hill, she goes undercover with the help of her associate, Miles Hailey. Posing as Katherine, a temp at Hill’s agency, and Veronica, a girl Hill flirts with online, Rowena surrounds her prey from all sides, only to discover that she isn’t the only one changing identities. The closer we get to learning the truth, the more we understand how far people will go to protect it. Opens in Malaysia on 23 August 2007.
I got free tickets (again!) to the screening of this movie last nite at 9.30pm in Cineleisure. Thanks again to Cass. Pam and I had dinner at Burger King - which the service sucked but we got a free medium onion rings to make up for it - then proceeded to watch the movie.
I went watching this movie with low expectations due to the rather low rating it got at Yahoo! Movies with only a D+ from critics and C+ from the users. Plus its Halle Berry and sometimes her movies tend to be rather boring.
So the story centers around Halle Berry’s character - Rowena Price - one of the top editors in a newspaper (writing under a pseudonym) who often goes undercover to uncover controversial stories. One of her friend dies after having an affair with Harisson Hill. So she uses her sex appeal to get closer to Hill. Sounds like the story is predictable eh? It’s not.
As the story progresses, we see that each of the characters have a dirty secret - Hill has affairs behind his wife’s back (what’s new?), Hill’s right hand (wo)man is a lesbian - and people are not what we expect.

My free ticket to the screening
Rat-aa-tu-eee-leRa-ta-to-tee
Rat-ta-tu-ti
Rat….err…forget it…it’s that tikus cartoon
Millions of different and confusing ways to pronounce and spell it. According to the poster it’s pronounced rat-a-too-ee.
Thanks to Cass, Taufie, Pam & I got free tickets to watch the screening of Ratatouille before it opens in (Malaysian) cinemas on 16th August. The screening was at Cinema 9 in Cineleisure (have I mentioned how i like to watch movies there?) at 9.30 pm last night.

Synopsis :“Ratatouille” is about a lovable rat - Remy - who constantly risks his life in an expensive French restaurant because of his love for good food, as well as a burning desire to become a gourmet chef. Obviously, this is rather far-fetched for a rat but opportunity knocks when a young boy, who desperately needs to keep his job at the restaurant despite not being able to cook to save his life, makes Remy a partner. The two of them learn to avoid the insane head chef, bring the rest of Remy’s family up to his culinary standards, win the boy a girlfriend, and of course, produce the finest ratatouille in all of France!
First up, the technical, artsy-fartsy, high class-ish stuff. The animation in this movie was superb - typical to Pixar’s long running success in animation movies. I liked the short clip they showed before the movie - about a noobie alien learning to teleport a human into a spaceship- simply hilarious. The scenes were all very detailed and the camera angles really gave the viewers the experience of looking at the world from a lower point of view (since the main characters were mostly rats).
Storywise its an entertaining show which got the audience laughing at some really funny scenes and also makes you really want to root for poor Linguine who is constantly bullied. The story is about how Remy was different from the other rats and had to lie and pretend to be accepted by his colony (i didnt know colony was used for rats..i tot it was used for ants only
).
As in all Disney movies, there are always some kind of tearful conflict and disappointment but in the end, all is good. The bad guys lose and the good guys triumph. All in all, this movie was an enjoyable experience with no boring parts.

** no spoilers **
I went to watch this movie with A, Gladz & FarZ at Cineleisure on Friday night Saturday morning. Wanted to go at 9.20pm on Friday night but A couldn’t make it out that early so we took a much much later show at 1.20am. I can almost hear you say “Biar betul?!?!”
Yes ladies and gentleman, unlike Cineleisure has movies until 1.20am (and is probably the first cinema to offer that in Malaysia - correct me if I’m wrong but if im not mistaken TGV and GSC only has movies till midnight).
Synopsis from CinemaOnline.com : While a ‘Save-The-Environment’ campaign sweeps Springfield and Lisa Simpson rallies support for the campaign, her father, Homer, mistakenly dumps wastes into the town’s river. This sets a lynch mob after Homer and his family and they are forced to flee to Alaska. Meanwhile, the US government carries out a radical plan to contain the town - and it is up to the Simpsons to come to the town’s rescue.
After many, many, many years of being on the small screen The Simpsons finally made it to the big screen. I know many2 people who were waiting for the show since last year when the trailer was first released.
If you grew up watching the Simpsons you’d notice that the storyline is much like another Simpsons episode but in a grander fuller scale. We have the usual doofus Homer, his loving wife Marge, Lisa - the sensible, serious one, Bart - the joker and Maggie the adorable baby who is smarter than she looks and how the 5 of them handle the situation in their own unique way.
If you’re looking for a movie in which you just want to enjoy and relax and laugh. Then go watch this movie.
