Urbanscapes is this awesome festival of music, arts, lifestyle and film all under one roof (well, actually one padang but you get the point). Go shopping at the bazaars, watch local arts perform or see works of art in action!

I got invited to Anya Hindmarch Tea Party by April who got it from Erin. Headed down to KLCC Sat Morning after waking up late because I didn’t set my alarm. Hehe sorry April!

Got there around 12.30pm (awesomely got from Damansara to KLCC in less than 30 mins) was greeted by friendly Sales Assistants at Anya Hindmarch KLCC. Was greeted by this awesome display of cakes and desserts below.

Red velvet cakes, dainty fruit tarts, truffle and macarons, all were gorgeously presented in such a pretty way (note the flowers at the back). I was so amazed at how they managed to fit 4 tables & chairs, the middle table for the food and a side table for drinks – coffee, tea and sparkling white wine (I believe).

And in the midst of all this, we were treated to a preview of the 2010 Autumn Winter Collection. Rows and rows of bags along all the walls tempting in their unique yet classic designs and colours.

What I really like about Anya Hindmarch bags is that most of their bags have an inner zipped pocket, a pen holder and a detachable key ring (refer left pic above). Also, some of the bags also have an additional strap in case you want it to be slung over your shoulder. So practical.

Ranging from shoulder to top handle bags and clutches to totes, I’m sure everyone out there will have a favourite out of the newest collection. Here are some of mine:

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

I had dinner at Du Viet the other night. Worthy Book had a voucher for 10% off the bill. Upon paying, we showed the voucher and at first the lady was confused as it was also applicable for La Lot.

She gave it back but we insisted so she made some calls and then accepted the voucher. So we got 10% off which covered almost 1/3 the cost of the book.

I assume its because they are new, some of the outlets are not too sure that its possible to use it. But don’t worry, just insist and I’m sure its possible.

Did I mention that the vouchers mostly expire on 31 July 2011? Granted there are some vouchers that expire monthly but most have another whole YEAR to finish up.

I actually find myself putting this book in my handbag almost every time I’m out because you never know if you might be going to that place in the book.

In fact, I think I’ll bring Boost Juice vouchers to KLCC tomorrow :D

Yes ladies! Its here! Woot! From 21 May to 13 June 2010, all the West Malaysia outlets are on sale (refer here). Not sure about Sabah or Sarawak though. I first found out about it from the shoppingnsales site and later got a list of the items on sales from Miu.

Not a total of 60% discount on the item. Remember this, because I did some miscalculation in the beginning. Also a tip, choose an outlet that is less crowded. I remember how packed it was at the Midvalley outlet during the last sale. I swear it was madness.

The book sale of the year was back. The Big Bad Wolf store was having yet another massive book sale. I’ve heard really good things about the book sale early this year and so I was determined to come to this one. It was at Amcorp Mall – 3rd floor (where the cinema previously was).

Planned to go on Friday evening but I couldn’t get away early so decided to go this morning. Was hoping that it being a public holiday, most people would have balik kampung or be at the mosque. Heard “horror” stories about how packed it was on Friday so Sat morning was my best bet.

It opens at 10 am but I was there around 9.30am and at that time, a line was already forming outside the area (refer pic above). The shutters were still closed tho. I took my place at the end of the line and inched slowly. Can’t remember what time I got it but it must have been around 20-30 minutes.

there was SO MANY books. Rambang mata. The books were mostly sorted by genre. Not by author tho. There was a few rows of Chinese books. I skipped those – of course. These are the genres I saw

• Non-fiction – along the left side of the wall. skipped
• Business – I skipped this.
• Children – kids books were in seperate room – perfect for keeping noisy kids away from the main area. Skipped.
• Reference – atlas, dictionary, SAT ref. This is along the back. Skipped
• Magazines – skipped
• Religious – Small selection of Christian books.
• Chicken Soup Series – RM8 each if im not mistaken. Didn’t realize they had so many types.
• Computing – omg! all at RM15. cheap. Mostly published in 2006-2007. Mostly about Ruby, servers, Windows Vista, Programming.
• Cooking – didn’t seem to have much choices. Maybe there was more at the non-fiction section. Saw a martha stewart and some cookbooks published by magazines, eg: women’s weekly.
• Romance – Right back area. Loads of chic lits, romance novels. Picked up 1-2 books that caught my eye
• Sci-fi & Fantasy – some star trekk books. Lots of forgotten realms. Picked up some here. One thing that dissapointed me was that because its not sorted by author, I couldnt buy a collection. Wanted to get Legends of Drizzt books by R.A. Salavtore but could only find a few and not in order at that. So I didn’t buy.
• Fiction – loads and loads of fiction. Stephen King. Wanted to buy the dark tower series but same problem as above. Soooo many authors. Rambang mata

Thats roughly most of what I remember seeing. Some people brought a list. Not too sure if that was helpful because like I said, it wasnt sorted by author. Just dumped by genre.

They provide boxes. So if you don’t have a bag, you can get a box from them. Just be prepared to lug it around.

Some tips

1. Go early!
2. Bring a bag or two, or three. I brought a pretty big bag, but as you will later see from my purchases, it was clearly not enough. Also, better to go with a friend who can help you carry stuff. If he/she isnt carrying a bunch of stuff of his/her own. LOL!
3. They accept both cash and card
4. Be prepared for a wait
5. I parked in front of Amcorp at the open air parking. It was RM5 for about 3 hours.

DONT DO THESE

1. For goodness sake, leave your kampung at home. Don’t bring your aunties, uncles, 10 kids, the maid, granma, granpa. There was a kid who actually sat on the box where I put my books in.
2. Keep your boxes and bags OFF THE BOOKS! You spoil the books that people want to buy and also block others from seeing it. Inconsiderate.
3. When you are in a group, dont huddle and lean over the books while skimming through the pages. I cant see the titles through your stomach.
4. Don’t bring a shopping trolly like you’re going to the market. it just blocks everyone’s way

Yea so that’s about it. A total of 28 books for about RM250. Quite a good deal if i must say so myself.

Improvements have to be made tho. The venue was rather small and inconvenient especially since everyone was lugging around boxes and big bags. Books also, if possible, be sorted at least by grouping the same authors together.

I guess it all boils down to how much you are willing to endure to get cheap books. Paperbacks which cost usually RM35+ in bookstores were all RM8 each. Reference books, RM15 or so.

For me, it was satisfying. Happy *grin*

So any of you girls thinking about participating? I’m a bit too short at 5’3″ to apply – not that I want to anyway. Shy lah :P

I work somewhere nearby the Bangsar LRT and usually eat around that area. I needed to withdraw money so I took the escalator upstairs with a colleague to the Bangsar LRT because there’s a Maybank ATM. I owed her some money so I need to break my RM50s I just withdrew.

So around 3.30pm, I went to the myNews kiosk to buy something to break the note. The cashier was a male of mixed descent who was holding a bunch of notes in his hand. I’m not too sure but maybe he was sorting money in the till.

I picked a roll of mentos berry and gave to the cashier. He punched it in and it came up to RM1.50 and I took out my RM50. He looked and the note and made an annoyed face, clearly displeased with the amount of the note. I said “I need the change” and he said “Satu lima” with the same displeased face and refused to even take my note.

I was disgusted and appalled by his behaviour so I said “tak apa!” and my colleauge and I instantly walked out of the shop. So I walked to the 7-Eleven located downstairs.

I bought a Mentos Berry & Twister Apple which totaled up to RM 3.20 and gave my RM50 note & 20 cents to the cashier. It was also a male cashier. He didn’t have sufficient amount in the till to give me my change so he reached under the counter and took out a new roll of RM10s and gave me my change.

I came back into the office and tweet-ed about it and surprisingly, two of my twitter friends had the same experience. (click to see the direct tweets)

Apparently the service in myNews Bangsar LRT is lousy and I doubt I would be going there again.
