Hurts Live in KL

Posted by on May 11, 2011  |  No Comments

As what I wrote in Hurts is coming to Kuala Lumpur! and I’m going to Hurts concert this Friday!, I managed to get tickets thanks to Sony Music Malaysia to the TOPMAN and Junk By Demand presents Hurts live in Mist Club KL!

Its been a while since I went to a concert. I think the last time was Jason Derulo in Dragonfly club (formerly Orange) in KL. Was at Mist slightly before 8pm and bumped into Yatz inside the club with some friends.  A DJ was warming up the crowd and people were slowly trickling in.

Hurts Live in KL 1

I can’t remember what time it started exactly but it seemed like suddenly the club was extremely full, I was standing behind a whole bunch of people and the crowd suddenly erupted to cheers as the Hurts duo – Theo Hutchcraft and Adam Anderson – walked on the stage.

Hurts Live in KL 2

Theo talked about how its their first time in Malaysia, and they visited Batu Caves (according to his Twitter @theohurts they visited KLCC as well so not so sure why he didn’t mention that) and that “we would never be here if it weren’t for you”. The crowd was predominantly female and I could understand why. In person, Theo really is hot! With his calm and stylish debonair, its no surprise why you feel attracted to him.

Also, he’s a great performer, commanding the crowd and making you feel that he looks straight at you as he sang, giving you a piercing gaze. And to add to that, he also occasionally threw white roses into the crowd, causing girls to scream as they grabbed wildly for it.

Not to be forgotten, Adam Anderson was also amazing on the synthesizer , his fingers flying across the keyboard with full concentration on his face. At one point, he picked up the electric guitar, took a step into the spotlight and showed us what he was truly capable of – making amazing music.

Hurts Live in KL 3

Throughout the night, it seemed like Hurts performed song after song without stopping. From favorites such as Stay (complete with the music video playing in the background) and Lonely Sunday, to a cover of Kylie Minogue’s “Confide in me” – of whom they confessed they are big fans of – they took to the stage like a duck in water. I forgot to note the first few songs but in total, Hurts performed the following songs : Evelyn, Lonely Sunday, Verona, Devotion, Confide in Me (cover), Illumination, Stay and closed with an encore of Better than Love. I managed to record a short snippet of Better than Love with my iPhone below.

You know how some musicians sound great on their CD but fail to bring it when they perform Live? For Hurts, this wasn’t the case. They were nothing short of AMAZING. It was one of the most entertaining concerts/showcases I’ve been too in a long time (not that I’ve been to many). Even the friend I brought along who knew nothing about them until the day before, became a fan.

Thanks Hurts, for a great night!

Malbec World Day Wine Tasting by Entwin3

Posted by on April 22, 2011  |  No Comments

malbec2I got invited to a Wine Tasting event last weekend (yes I really was the busy bee last weekend. tee hee hee!) at Opus Bistro in Bangsar. Malbec is a grape variety that is grown/cultivated (sorry not sure of the term, I have no green fingers) in Argentina and the Malbec wine produced are of exceptional quality.

The Malbec World Day Event was a series of events which included tasting masterclass, wine tasting, brunch, dinner and tango but I only attended the afternoon session of wine tasting and brunch.

The Brunch was mostly Italian with pastas, lasagna and salad. The carbonara was pretty good actually. Should go to Opus and try out the food there some day.

For the wine tasting, everyone was given a glass of wine with lables of their names. Pretty smart coz I’m sure people will leave their wine glasses then forget whose glass is whose. The bottles were all covered in foil and labeled with letters. we then had to taste each of the wines and rate them.

Its actually my first time doing any kind of wine tasting – I’m more of the hard liquor girl myself – but luckily they had a guide on how to taste wine, which I actually only read/realized after I was on my 6th or 7th type of wine. Haha!

Basically, as you can see from the pic above, there are three steps : (1) See the colour (2) Swirl and sniff (3) Sip to sample. Also make sure you rinse your glass between tastings and also drink water to keep your palate refreshed. Also nibble on bread to recondition your tastebuds for another round of tastings.

We were all given scoring sheets as above. I obviously couldn’t make up my mind on which wine I liked, hence all the scribblies. Oh, also we were given “Cabarnet (Wine) scented pencils” – how cool is that? The scores were all tabulated and the top three favourites were:

  1. Wine M – Kaiken Ultra Malbec 2008
  2. Wine P – Catena Malbec 2008
  3. Wine N – Zuccardi Q Malbec (tied with) Wine T – Luigi Bosca Reserva Malbec 2007

All in all, it was a fun and interesting experience. We also took home some interesting magazines (which I haven’t had the time to even open the plastic yet) and that wine pencil.

If you’re a wine drinker/enthusiast/curious, follow Entwin3 on Facebook for updates on future events and maybe stand a chance to win free bottles of wine. Alcohol + Free = Very good!

Tweet up – A meetup of people who use Twitter, also called Tweeters or Twitter-ers
Twestival - Event or festival organized under short timescales & 100% run by volunteers, for fundraising/charity.

In this case, Twestival KL was run by a small organizing committee comprising of @Ling_chan @davidlian @Suanie @radianceleong @nigelais @Eevon @nikicheong and all proceeds were to be given to Destiny Starting Point, a home for delinquent youths in Klang to turn their life around.

I reached Mist Club Bangsar at around 7.10-7.15pm since it wasn’t very jammed, surprisingly. Got awesome parking in the front. Hehe! Walked in and saw the 1901 Hotdogs booth and some cupcakes frm Cupcake Chic. Was too stuffed to eat tho.

Out with the girls

I finally quit my moping around at home and went out on Wednesday. First was tea with a guy friend with whom I’ve been postponing meeting coz of time constraints. Then I met up with Pam, Aree, Jazzy, Ayman & Taufan at Empress Cafe, Curve. I had a bottle of shisha. Wee~ shisha makes me happy :P Then lepaked and chit-chatted with Pam and her friends at Idaman till around 2am plus.

On Thursday we woke up and Aree came over and we had lunch at this nice place in KJ that serves N9 food. Sedap (no pics tho coz we were starving and instantly attacked the food). Then we went over to Bangsar for a pampering session – threading my eyebrows which looked totally bushy and wild and also cutting my hair at PeekABoo which is getting way too long and heavy. Didn’t do much to it, just trimmed it 2 inches and layered it. But I love this new hairstyle, lighter and easier to maintain i think.

That night we painted the town red by deciding to club in Ghetto Heaven @ Zouk. Met up with Jazzy and Ayman there. Taufan also stopped by for a bit. It was just us girls (and Ayman) and it was fun. Not to mention that girls get 2 drinks free and pam gave me hers so I was downing 3 tequila shots on top of 1 jug of Long Island Tea and some Vodka lime.

Went home kinda early, chit chat and had a smoke of the good stuff (lol!) before drifting off into dreamless sleep. Two solid days with the girls has really rejuvenated my spirits. I love you babes >:D<

Pictas! Surprisingly we didn’t take a lot. I was too busy drinking to take and the others were too busy enjoying themselves

Left behind at the highway

Posted by on April 26, 2007  |  No Comments

I was lepaking at a friend’s place helping to finish up some assignments when he sent me back early in the morning because we felt hungry also. So there we were goin through the Jalan Duta toll into the NKVE highway and wanting to exit at the Kota Damansara tol. Some distance after the tol, there’s a bend then the road cuts through some hills. That road is a rather lonely and usually only lorries pass that area.

About 5 minutes after the toll, i noticed someone standing at the side of the road  , and i said to my fren, “eh its a lady!” He noticed her too, and stopped some distance away. He said “if it was just me alone I wouldnt stop but since u’re with me then its ok.” He reversed a bit and i winded the window down and asked, “Kak nak pegi mana?

lonely highway at night

She said she wanted to get back to Bangsar. After asking my fren if it was ok if we sent her back, he said “masuklah, kita hantar u balik“. Apparently she was fighting with her friends and she said something like “kalo u tak suka, u letak i kat sini je la” (SO not a smart thing to do) and they stopped the car and actually dragged her out of the car and left. And she was crying saying that she didnt even know where she was and how to get back.

So we exited at the Damansara and proceeded to Bangsar with me as the navigator coz my fren is hopeless with roads :|. On the way we noticed her accent was ‘different’ and then my fren asked “You dari mana? Sarawak ke?” and apparently she was a Kuching gal. And so we (her and I) were talking a bit in Sarawakian (its been ages since i last spoke Sarawak malay).

After sending her back (plus a stop at a gas station for directions and her insisting that I took her number) we were on our way to makan at Nasi Kandar at Bangsar.

Me : So naper tanak amik dier kalo u sorang dlm kereta?
Fren : Eh manatau bila i stop pastu ada kawan2 dier panjat dari longkang ke semak kat tepi tu pastu nak curi keta I ke, buat benda tak elok ke…
Me : Imaginasi u tinggi sgt la *hahaha*
Fren : So, lesson of the day, jgn jadi mabuk.
Me : Drunk? camner u tau?
Fren : Masa dier masuk dah i bau
Me : Really? I tak perasan.
Fren : U mesti la tak perasan..sbb dah sebati dgn diri you
Me :…… (cis!)

Anyway i think it was totally evil and inhuman of her friends to leave her there. Even if u’re so pissed off at her, leave her somewhere where there are people lah, a kedai mamak, a gas station or bus stop or something.

Lucky I always got good friends when I go out clubbing…(plus its too expensive kinda hard to get me drunk  ).

PAM! I MISS YOU!!
