Posted by on August 12, 2009  |  3 Comments

11 Aug – Primeworks Studios and a group of cinema operators are coming together to honour the memory of the late film director Yasmin Ahmad by organising a re-screening of her latest movie "Talentime" on 13 August 2009 onwards, for a limited time only. The screening will be held across various cinemas nationwide and the organisers have pledged to donate RM1 to an undisclosed charity organisation for every movie ticket sold.

"Yasmin Ahmad was an icon of our film industry who will be sorely missed, and this is our way of honouring her memory and allowing viewers to enjoy her work on the big screen once again," said Dato’ Sri Farid Ridzuan, Media Prima Berhad’s Group CEO Television Networks. "Those who missed it will now have a chance to catch it, while those who have watched it before are welcome to come along again to join us in remembering her while contributing to charity."

    "Talentime" will screen at:
  •  GSC Cinemas in Mid Valley Megamall (KL), Queensbay Mall (Penang), Sunway Carnival (Prai), Dataran Pahlawan (Malacca), Alamanda (Putrajaya);
  • TGV Cinemas in KLCC (KL), Cheras Selatan (KL), 1 Utama (PJ), Bukit Tinggi (Klang), Bukit Raja (Klang), Tebrau City (Johor);
  • MBO Cinemas in Ampang (Selangor), Batu Pahat Mall (Johor), MBO Kluang (Johor), MBO Skudai (Johor);
  • Big Cinemas Lotus Five Star in Taiping (Perak), Teruntum (Kuantan), Riverside (Kuching), Alor Setar (Kedah);
  • Independent Cinemas in Growball (Kota Kinabalu) and The Mall (Brunei).

Released earlier this year in March, "Talentime" follows a group of students and teachers as they prepare for a talent contest in a school. Through the course of rehearsals and preparations, tragedy and emotions blend together and raise questions of faith, race, love and life.

Yay! Come and watch Talentime, the late Yasmin Ahmad’s recent movie which will be showing in a few cinemas for a limited time.

I watched this movie at a media event and it was an awesomely heartwarming movie. Paired with a really good soundtrack, this is one movie that is defiantly a keeper for your DVD collection.

Highly recommended!

Review : Indiana Jones & The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (no spoilers)

Ah, the fourth installment of Indiana Jones. There must be a lot of people who are looking forward to George Lucas’ and Steven Spielberg’s latest offering. I went to watch it last night and didn’t quite like it. More on that later. First, the summary. For once I didn’t copy paste from somewhere else. LOL!

The year is 1957, and the movie opens with a row of military vehicles driving along a lonely road in a scorching desert. A not-that-young-anymore Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) and his sidekick Mac (Ray Winston) is caught by Soviet agents lead by the ruthless Irina Spalko (Cate Blanchett). They want something from him – the way to find the Crystal Skull.

Together with Mutt Williams (Shia LeBeouf), his mentor (John Hurt) and his mother (Karen Allen), Indiana Jones must race against to Soviet agents to be the first to find the Crystal Skull.

Okay, the movie was full of the usual exploring different countries and running into the forests and visiting old temples – like most of Indiana Jones’ movies. I expected something full of adventure and puzzles, much like movies such as National Treasure. Boy was I disappointed.

Everything was so easy, from the deducing of the clues, how they escaped the bad guys to deciding what steps to take next. Indiana Jones had kinda lost his edge, being much more ‘softer’. I’d expected someone who had great witty and sarcastic comebacks.

And don’t get me started on the ending, after all that swordfighting, punching people in the gut and bleeding noses, it was SUCH a letdown.

Lets hope the next installment of Indiana Jones – I think there is going to be one – would be much much better than this one.
