Jothy’s Fish Head Curry sues Blogger SixthSeal & Google for Defamation

Posted by on January 26, 2011  |  16 Comments

Just saw this on twitter:

Google, blogger sued by fish head curry restaurant operator in KK

Jothy’s Fish Head Curry restaurant director Tharumaraj Sivaperumal filed a RM6mil civil suit at the Kota Kinabalu High Court here Monday, naming blogger Poh Huai Bin as first defendant and California-based Google Inc as second defendant.

The suit is arising from some allegedly defamatory statements about Jothy’s Fish Head Curry restaurant posted in May last year by Poh, originally from Sibu in Sarawak and now residing in Kuala Lumpur.

Jothy’s is also seeking an order from the court to remove the offending articles from Google and other popular search engines used on the Internet.

As a result of the defendants’ action, the plaintiff claimed it had suffered loss and damage, and its reputation had been affected both locally and internationally.

So apparently Huai Bin @ Sixthseal wrote about how he didn’t like the food in Jothy’s in his blogpost (way back in May 2010 mind you) even though it is recommended in Lonely Planet. In his words he called it “The Worst Fish Head Curry and Banana Leaf Restaurant in the Known Universe” and “a tourist trap. Avoid it like a bad case of herpes.”

His post – http://www.sixthseal.com/2010/05/jothys-fish-head-curry-banana-leaf-restaurant.html – is currently down (and/or a bit slow). You can get his post in Google cache here – http://bit.ly/gWJKeW

If that is a bit slow, I also have a screenshot of the post with images below. Click for a bigger pic (thx april!)

Edit : Just realized the screenshot wasn’t complete. Fixed.

Update to this issue : Google to retain ‘offensive’ contents on fish head curry outlet

Google Analytics Master Class (GAMC) Kuala Lumpur + Slides

Posted by on March 16, 2010  |  6 Comments

The good people over in Google SEA decided to hold the first (I think) Google Analytics Master Class in KL last weekend. It was held in Hilton Hotel KL and the best part, it was FREE! All you had to do was register yourself and they will email you if you got the invites. I bet they didn’t expect the overwhelming response though.

The GAMC consists of a couple of speakers who gave short 10 minutes (or so) talks. Some were from Google, explaining the features in GA and other related tools. Others were from various businesses that utilizes GA in their business.

Trying out Google Sketchup

Posted by on September 28, 2009  |  9 Comments

I saw Azmanishak’s post about ‘Buat Perabut Rumah‘ using Google Sketchup and thought I’d give it a try. Its been a while since I used any 3d software. Last being 3D Studio Max back in college.

So I downloaded Google SketchUp 7 (its FREE!) and watched some training vids before starting. Basically, it has functions such as extrude (pull out, pull in), move, rotate, scale and resize.

So after playing with it and getting use to it for about an hr, i came up with this rough 3d image of my room. Its incomplete. So far i just finished the bed, table, documents cabinet and the curtains.

This is how my actual room looks like. Sorry about the mess. Hehe! Also instead of the laundry basket under the table, i have a file cabinet.

What do you think? Getting there ey? :P

Tips to make your blog appear in Google Search

Posted by on April 10, 2008  |  4 Comments

Someone in the forum was asking how to make their blog posts appear when someone searches about their posting in google. I gave some short tips on how to play around with keywords.

One example is to write the URL of your post properly and precisely using keywords that people will search for. Secondly is making sure that you have lots of the same keywords repeating in your post. Thirdly is to tag your posts with Technorati tags to define what is talked about in your content.

Oh, one more thing which I didn’t mention was using the ALT=”" tag in images. ALT stands for alternate text and this is the text that pops up when you mouse over an image. Its also used for text to speech programs which really aids people with sight problems to ‘browse’ your site.

Besides making our blog posts appear in Google searches, we also want to promote our blog/website URL to as many places as possible. Put your URL in your business cards, email signature or even your forum signature. Adding a headline animator is even better.

Or submit your website URL to online web directories like dirmania web directory under the right categories so people can easily search for your site.

Hope these tips helped you!
