Hari Bintang Jatuh – Aftermath

Posted by on October 29, 2008  |  No Comments

Phew, finally its over. And everyone – especially the hardworking organizers – can now breathe a huge sigh of relief.

For me, the day started the night before. Aree, Pam, and Jazzy came over the night before and we were baking, smoking (well they were smoking), ordered McD, waited 1 hr for the food to arrive, realized that they forgot 1 large fries, waited another hr for the fries. Chopped, mixed, beat, stirred, realize that we couldn’t melt the chocolate, realized that the coffee refused to brew, cut cakes, put some in our mouths, wrapped cakes in plastic and so on and so forth. Believe it or not, after all the washing up and sweeping and cleaning, we finished at 4am and the girls went back.

I checked my mail before going to bed and realized that we needed to go there around 8AM to set up our booth and secure a place where we would setup our stall. Didn’t realize it earlier because I couldn’t make it for the briefing (I sent Omar as a wakil. Tengkiu Omar ;))

Our wares – Seriously so much cakes/goodies right?

So after going to bed at 4am, we had to get up at 7.30 am, drove down to Ampang at 8.30am then deposited the tables, chairs and clothes rack. Then came home, picked my sister, picked up all our goodies, picked up drinks from Tesco, bought tons of ice then headed off to Ampang again.

Set up shop, watched people go by, listened to good music from talented local artists, bumped into friends from persetankan – jasmine, omar, ikhmal, etc – with the sweet Wani, surprisingly met an old classmate – Adam – who was reciting one of his poems.

Performances & Bazaar

There was one or two things I didn’t really like. Everyone got the email to start setting up the booth at 8am onwards. I know this is Malaysia but you shouldn’t be an ass and come late and then ask me to move over to the other side and make faces if I look reluctant. Secondly the event was more of a performance, rather than a bazaar. Made me regret just a little because couldn’t enjoy it.

But anyway, there are really good things that I liked. The outside area was spacious and not too cramped. Perhaps it would be better if the inside was bigger so that it could fit more people tho. I absolutely LOVED the fact that we (exhibitors/stall owners/performers) had designated parking. I seriously seriously appreciate that a lot! Committee members were all very helpful and nice – despite the fact that they probably didn’t sleep the night before. I know how hard it is to organize something like that.

Personally, I feel that Wani Ardy’s Hari Bintang Jatuh was a success. It was a experiment for me – learned some things that day.

~ Kudos to the hardworking committee. Very well organized
~ Shoutout to Jazzy, Pam & Feli for being involved. Thanks to Aree who also helped out – even tho she FFK at the last min. lol
~ It was nice bumping to frens. Bella, sorry takleh lepak lama. Afdzal + kawan, thanks for coming, hope u guys enjoyed urself

KLUE Urbanscapes

Picture taken from Nick’s blog. Go see more pics there

Gladys and I went to KLUE Urbanscapes for a bit on Saturday at KLPAC, Sentul West around 4pm – mainly to go see what they were selling in the Marketplace, we’re big fans of these flea market kinda things. We couldn’t stay long anyway coz she had plans around 7pm.

For one thing, the parking was terrible. I had to pusing2 a few times before finding parking at this field which was bumpy. Another thing was the marketplace should have been planned out better – coz it was all stuffy and packed. And it was oh so HOT HOT HOT! Everyone was sweating buckets out there.

I bumped into the Persetankan (DFJJ) group (sorry tak ingat nama semua org – Jasmine, Bali, Ikmal, err..siapa lg?) who were sitting relaxing at the side of KLPAC, Su Ann happily shopping with her bf, Carmen and noticed a few bloggers (whom I’m not close to). Omar dtg lambat, kalo tak leh jumpa. Nik Ryu, Ariff and gang were inside but it was rather packed so I decided against going inside (plus also didn’t have much time).

The Random Acts (facebook link) people were there too, doing their Rob thingy. This is where people were walking around looking for someone – screaming out his name, tapping random ppl and asking them. Hehe! Caused a lot of puzzled looks. Funny!

Besides all the goodies for sale – there were bags, and clothes, and wallets and handmade stuff and bangles, accessories, necklaces, hats, bikinis – there was also baked goodies – I spotted Wondermilk with their cupcakes – and a booth of drinks. They even had beer! (tho it was RM12/can)

There was also an outdoor acoustic stage by the lake. That was really nice

Honestly, I didn’t quite enjoy myself there. Perhaps it was the rather cramped space and the heat (I can’t stand heat). Perhaps it was also some people who were there just for the sake of being there and looking cool. “Pretentious” said G. Perhaps I’m just not ‘hip’ enough for this kinda crowd. LOL!

Anyway, it was a really great effort by KLUE – first arts fest of it’s kind I think. Perhaps next time it could be done in a bigger venue?

p/s: No pics from me because it seems that every young person with a DSLR was there. LOL!

My new baby & a quiet raya

my perodua viva

I got my new baby – red hot Perodua Viva! Finally! Well I’ve had it for almost a week now, since Thursday (11 Oct) thanks to Azman who rushed the whole process just so I could get it before Raya. Thanks loads! I really like my number plate as well – WQQ then 4 odd numbers after that. My mom is quite happy there are no ’4′ in the number plate.

The reason why I didnt get a Myvi was because my parents wanted to get a 2nd cheaper car since we already have the Honda. If we were thinking of buying a main car, then a myvi would be good. Plus a Viva is more cost saving in the long run.

So yea, I’ve been really rajin going out lately – esp for movies, thats why there are so many movie reviews i’ve written lately :P The most recent movie I went to watch was The Last Legion with Jef & Ariff who both bullied me.

Raya this year has been really really quiet – even tho I had a week holiday. Its a week past raya and I still hvnt gone to any open houses this year. However I am invited to a few end of this month. Then there’s the Gegar Ria thing to think about. Need to settle the presentation & also the web conferencing. Not to mention the photography session. (I hope I wont be too busy snapping photos of everyone and eventually not having any fun or even participating :()

On a happier note, the Pangkor trip is confirmed. Everyone has paid the 50% deposit (which explains why im broke this month, rm90 for Pangkor, rm70 for gegar) and all 10+1 of us are going – Pam, Me, G, Sonic, Aree, Jef, Ariff, Nik, Craig, Arai + Taufan. Looking forward to having tons of fun there.

One of my newest submissions, lets hope this gets good criticism reviews

Tomorrow (Saturday) I have a DFJJ Meetup at KLCC this afternoon. Im still wondering if i should go or not coz im rather shy and everyone else is like such a professional photographer. But I need to go get my shirt from omar and I have met a few of them during the Rumpun so Im still considering.

Frozen moments

Dont you miss the feel of real photos? Not printed digital photos, but photos printed from an actual roll of film. I miss looking at those photos and laughing at some of the candid photos, for example my mom’s photos are always of her closing her eyes (due to the flash i think) or a shot at bad timing where everyone wasn’t ready yet.

Remember the glossy finishes and slightly sticky feel? When I was younger, that I was taught to keep the photos properly, not facing each other because the photos may stick to each other and spoil them. When I was at Mel’s house a few years back, I saw that she arranged her photos in a very interesting way called scrapbooking. This is where photos are arranged and decorated with colourful backgrounds, cutouts, stickers and designs. Go to this website to find many scrapbook page ideas.

Now with the popularity of digital photography and Photoshop, we can recreate that on our computer by editing and copy pasting far more intricate designs than before. However the best thing about digital photography is that you can snap an unlimited number of photos, look at them thru the display and delete or I love snapping photos because I find that it’s a way to freeze that moment in time. Taking pictures of life that passes around me is a favourite pastime, especially when I’m bored.
