Swine Flu (H1N1) in Malaysia?

Oh dear, I hope it wouldn’t reach our shores. There has been a total of three suspected cases so far (two of which turned out negative).

Suspected influenza A (H1N1) case in Sarawak

5 May 09 : 12.57PM

KUCHING, 5 May 2009: A 31-year-old man, who had been travelling to the United States in the last two weeks, was admitted to the Sarawak General Hospital’s isolation ward last night after having symptoms similar to influenza A (H1N1).

Health Deputy Director-General Dr Ramlee Rahmat said today the man, a local, returned to Sarawak on 1 May and had fever, cough and flu, symptoms that fit those for influenza A (H1N1), yesterday.

A swab sample taken from the man’s throat was sent to the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) in Kuala Lumpur this morning and the result was expected to be known either this evening or latest by tonight, he said.

The test result would be announced by the Health Minister or Health Director-General.

"We want to know exactly the type of the virus inside the body of that man, it is a necessary precaution," Ramlee told reporters after opening the two-day Healthy Cities Meeting for senior officials from Malaysia and other Asean countries here.

"At the moment, there is only one suspected case in Sarawak and we have activated our public health response to identify those who have been in contact with him to monitor their health," he said.

"Overall so far, including in Sarawak, there were a total of three suspected cases of influenza A (H1N1), with Penang and Selangor having one case each but both were negative," he said.

Earlier, when opening the meeting, he said Malaysia was still free from the deadly influenza outbreak as the government had taken pro-active measures to prevent it from spreading to the country in line with World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines.

"We have the facilities to detect it, no need to worry about it, you will be taken care of," he told the participants of the meeting.

Despite the small presence of medical officials from Asean countries at the meeting due to influenza scare, he hoped that the meeting would meet its objective. – Bernama

The Sendat Expedition

Posted by on April 13, 2009  |  No Comments

What did you guys do last weekend? A friend of mine invited me to follow him to look for a waterfall somewhere near Ulu Yam. “Kita pegi cari, then balik la” were his words. So I didn’t bring baju at first so we had to turn back. -_- Not to mention I forgot to set my alarm so I overslept. Sorry about that :P

Anyway, we expected a longer trip but it was a mere 70KM from my house. Its after Jalan Sungai Tua. Directions : “Once we reach the end of Jalan Sungai Tua, we turn right following the road sign.. Move straight for approximately another kilometer or so and we’re there.. Well the road was ok along the way, can say it was paved until the entrance of the falls entrance.. Unpaved for about 200m in the middle, but the road was ok

At first the river didn’t look very impressive but after we walked up higher, there was a waterfall and a quite nice pool where it was a bit deeper. The water was very cold and nice. We ended up staying for a few hours. Looks like a good place to BBQ and lepak ramai2. Will plan one soon

My new tailored white dress

Posted by on July 5, 2008  |  4 Comments

Every girl should have a wraparound dress in their cupboard. I just picked up mine from the tailors the other day (well Gladys picked it up for me from Kota Kemuning). Its really hard to find plus size dresses even though I already tried looking in many shops in Kuala Lumpur so I usually tailor mine. Pictures as promised :D

Somehow I couldn’t get a nice shot but rest assured its really really nice :D Costs about RM80 for the workmanship, which i find rather reasonable considering I asked her to finish it fast. The materials not sure coz mom bought it. I did it in Kota Kemuning, Selangor.

Nice or not?

I got my CJ7 doll

We were walking around after buying tickets for the movie 10,000 BC (which was good but more on that later) when I spotted this shop selling the very adorable CJ7. They sold it in a few sizes – handphone hangers, keychains, flat rounded zipper wallets but he bought me the biggest one (about RM20) they have to hang in the car, the one with a suction cup :D
