[Tutorial] Link Maybank Visa Debit Card with Paypal

Posted by on August 9, 2009  |  114 Comments

Finally! After numerous complaints from users, Maybank’s Visa Debit card can finally be linked to Paypal. You can use it to verify your Paypal account and hopefully withdraw successfully.

I can’t really say if its possible to withdraw funds from Paypal or not because I’ve not tried it but what I can tell you is that it IS possible to link your Maybank debit card with some easy steps.

Click on the pics to view a bigger screenshot.

Step One
Login to your Maybank2u account. Look under Utilities and Click on Maybankcard Secure Online Shopping Registration

Step Two
Select which card you want to use. In this case, I only have one card, so that is chosen by default.

Fill in the MSOS Password (has to be between 6-8 characters) and confirm

Fill in the Personal Assurance Message. This message will appear when you are asked for your password while shopping online. I think this is to ensure that is Maybank asking for your password and not some phishing site. There must not be any characters other than a-z.

Fill in the Expired Date, CVV, Hint & Answer

Step Three
Login to www.paypal.com with your paypal email & password.

In the My Account tab, click Profile and Add/Edit Credit or Debit Card.

Key in the details of your Maybank Visa Debit Card. Make sure the address is exactly the same as your billing address.

Step Five
You will then get a verification email to your paypal account saying that you have successfully linked your card. And now all you have to do is add the code.

Step Six
Okay this is important : Wait for about ONE DAY before doing the following steps**

Login to your Maybank2u again and click on Accounts & Banking, then click on your Account number for your Account Details.

Then click on Debit Card History. You should then see an entry with the word “Paypal”. The code is the 4 numbers before the word Paypal.

Eg: PREAUTH SALE 8921PAYPAL-*EXPUSE DATED 06/08/09
Paypal Code : 8921

**If you check your account too early, you might not see the details of the transaction and would not be able to get the code

Step Seven
Log in to www.paypal.com and click on Profile, then Add/Edit Credit or Debit Card.

Click on Enter Paypal Code and enter the code you obtained in Step Six.

Success!
And now you have successfully linked your Maybank Visa Debit Card to your Paypal. You will get the refund of USD1.95 to your Paypal account.

:: NOTES ::

  • If you have problems linking your card, check to make sure the details of the card is all correct – especially the Address. If all else fails, call the Maybank customer service.
  • I have no idea why USD 1.00 is also deducted along with the USD 1.95 when we verify the card. I didn’t have this extra charge when verifying with Al-rajhi Visa Debit Card
  • I have not tried to withdraw from Paypal to my card but I’ll be happy to hear your comments if you did try. Remember that Paypal charges USD5 per withdrawal.

First look at Firefox 3

Posted by on June 18, 2008  |  3 Comments

The Firefox 3 was up for downloads around 1am Malaysian time but the site was down – possibly coz too many people were accessing it. Firefox phailed. LOL!

Anyway, here’s my quick review. It was really easy to switch to Firefox. Everything was automated, including importing bookmarks and such. The first obvious problem will be the compatibility of Add-Ons.

unsupported addons in firefox 3

As you can see from my list above, the unsupported addons in my list are CoComment, FireFTP, Iget, Super DragAndGo and TabMixPlus (more on this later).

  • CoComment is a plugin that tracks all your comments on websites (so that you don’t hv to subscribe and get lots of email) – but there’s a bookmarklet so I guess I can live with that
  • FireFTP is a built in FTP program. Looks like I have to find a standalone one :/
  • Super DragAndGo allows me to highlight any text that is a link and just click and drag to open it in a new tab. I have to do it manually now :(
  • Iget lets me download a file eg if i want to download a swf from a website, i usually just check the code and copy the url of the swf and use Iget to download it. This one also have to do it manually now
  • Tab Mix Plus has many more features for tabbed browsing. Two which I really like are opening new tabs next to the old one and scrolling the tabs using the mouse wheel. Fixed : Get the dev version that is compatible with Firefox 3 HERE.

I really like the look and feel of Firefox 3. Everything looks much cleaner and streamlined. The Back and Forward buttons are HUGE and easier to press now. You can make it smaller like what I did by right clicking on the bar and selecting Customize and checking the Box “Use Small Icons”

If you’re wondering where’s my File, Edit, Tools, etc buttons, I used this addon called Tiny Menu which compressed everything into a dropdown Menu which is only visible when I press the MENU. Then I moved all the Navigation buttons, and the address and search bar up. Then I disabled the Navigation Bar so that I’m only left with two rows – one with all the navigation & address/search bar and another with the bookmarks.

I also like the Smart Location bar which instantly looks for the nearest possible link to what you’re typing. Usually it shows the recent pages but this one shows your bookmarks (with a Star) as well. Convenient.

Firefox 3 also has a better built in downloader which allows you to continue your download after you’ve closed the browser or if your internet connection is down. That doesn’t really effect me coz I use IDM to download my stuff but its useful incase of a crash.

Here are some modifications/hacks I did:

  • Resized that huge Back/Forward button
  • Downloaded Tab Mix Plus dev version from this site
  • Set Gmail as my default mail client. Meaning when i click any email address it will open Gmail and not Outlook. Tutorial [here].
  • I also enabled Spellcheck into one-line input fields – open about:config, set layout.spellcheckDefault value to 2
  • Enabled pasting multilines into input boxes. Tutorial [here]

Tutorial : Hide or encrypt posts in Blogger

Posted by on April 22, 2008  |  6 Comments

If you have a blog in Blogger, you’ll realize that it does not have the option to password protect your posts like WordPress does. However, there is a way around it, thanks to Vincent which uses Javascript to encrypt and decrypt the text. Here’s a step by step tutorial (complete with pics. YEY!)

Tips to make your blog appear in Google Search

Posted by on April 10, 2008  |  4 Comments

Someone in the forum was asking how to make their blog posts appear when someone searches about their posting in google. I gave some short tips on how to play around with keywords.

One example is to write the URL of your post properly and precisely using keywords that people will search for. Secondly is making sure that you have lots of the same keywords repeating in your post. Thirdly is to tag your posts with Technorati tags to define what is talked about in your content.

Oh, one more thing which I didn’t mention was using the ALT=”" tag in images. ALT stands for alternate text and this is the text that pops up when you mouse over an image. Its also used for text to speech programs which really aids people with sight problems to ‘browse’ your site.

Besides making our blog posts appear in Google searches, we also want to promote our blog/website URL to as many places as possible. Put your URL in your business cards, email signature or even your forum signature. Adding a headline animator is even better.

Or submit your website URL to online web directories like dirmania web directory under the right categories so people can easily search for your site.

Hope these tips helped you!
