[Tutorial] Link Maybank Visa Debit Card with Paypal
Finally! After numerous complaints from users, Maybank’s Visa Debit card can finally be linked to Paypal. You can use it to verify your Paypal account and hopefully withdraw successfully.
I can’t really say if its possible to withdraw funds from Paypal or not because I’ve not tried it but what I can tell you is that it IS possible to link your Maybank debit card with some easy steps.

Step One
Login to your Maybank2u account. Look under Utilities and Click on Maybankcard Secure Online Shopping Registration
Step Two
Select which card you want to use. In this case, I only have one card, so that is chosen by default.
Fill in the MSOS Password (has to be between 6-8 characters) and confirm
Fill in the Personal Assurance Message. This message will appear when you are asked for your password while shopping online. I think this is to ensure that is Maybank asking for your password and not some phishing site. There must not be any characters other than a-z.
Fill in the Expired Date, CVV, Hint & Answer
Step Three
Login to www.paypal.com with your paypal email & password.
In the My Account tab, click Profile and Add/Edit Credit or Debit Card.
Key in the details of your Maybank Visa Debit Card. Make sure the address is exactly the same as your billing address.
Step Five
You will then get a verification email to your paypal account saying that you have successfully linked your card. And now all you have to do is add the code.
Step Six
Okay this is important : Wait for about ONE DAY before doing the following steps**
Login to your Maybank2u again and click on Accounts & Banking, then click on your Account number for your Account Details.
Then click on Debit Card History. You should then see an entry with the word “Paypal”. The code is the 4 numbers before the word Paypal.
Eg: PREAUTH SALE 8921PAYPAL-*EXPUSE DATED 06/08/09
Paypal Code : 8921
**If you check your account too early, you might not see the details of the transaction and would not be able to get the code
Step Seven
Log in to www.paypal.com and click on Profile, then Add/Edit Credit or Debit Card.
Click on Enter Paypal Code and enter the code you obtained in Step Six.
Success!
And now you have successfully linked your Maybank Visa Debit Card to your Paypal. You will get the refund of USD1.95 to your Paypal account.
:: NOTES ::
- If you have problems linking your card, check to make sure the details of the card is all correct – especially the Address. If all else fails, call the Maybank customer service.
- I have no idea why USD 1.00 is also deducted along with the USD 1.95 when we verify the card. I didn’t have this extra charge when verifying with Al-rajhi Visa Debit Card
- I have not tried to withdraw from Paypal to my card but I’ll be happy to hear your comments if you did try. Remember that Paypal charges USD5 per withdrawal.

i’ve tried using it on ebay many many times successfully. no hassle my fund were directly withdrawn from my account with no issues until end of last month. i tried to pay for something and i could not complete the transaction.
got the same reply: “This card cannot be used for this transaction. You can complete the checkout with another debit or credit card. Please enter your new card information below.”
then i called maybank they ding dong me for more than 2 weeks and kept saying that i registered the card wrongly la, i put in the expiry date terbalik la. that’s weird cos i couldn’t be putting like date 2015 and year 05 right? especially when its a drop column. then they told me to change my shopping limit at the atm. still same problem.
anyway.. i wrote to paypal. their reply was, yes i have used the account successfully until this date and the following date it was declined. apparently, the bank would not verify the card. i could use my cards else where online except paypal. i still have not solved the problem. i just think maybank does not want us to use the card on paypal. sigh. does anyone have any solutions for this???

Ssoro : this is your first time making a transaction via paypal right? You must link your card as the instructions on top BEFORE making any transaction. After that then you can try and make your purchase via ebay
Farah : Did u go through the process of getting the MSOS? Your case is kind of weird because its done before then suddenly its blocked. :(

One way is you can probably apply for another debit card?
Or buy paypal funds from local sellers. You can find a few in http://forum.lowyat.net – make sure that its a recommended by other ppl (lots of testimonials, postive comments). You buy funds frm them, and can just bank in to their local bank account

That’s weird. Did you check your debit card transaction online for the card? If its not there, try calling Maybank

I have the exact same problem with Farah.
I did all the procedures MSOS, etc, Paypal just keeps on saying
“We were unable to verify this credit card. Please check if the information you entered is correct. If the problem persists, please try to enter a different credit card.”
Emailed them three times also pointless, keep on saying to add another credit card, I got charged USD 1.00 for pre auth verification. And my account is not verified ? Maybank keeps on blaming Paypal, and Paypal keeps on blaming “your local bank”.
Did anybody find any solutions for this ? I am an hold with Maybank, if anything comes out of this I will let you all know.

You can only add a card once on paypal. Of course Maybank knows when you add your card on Paypal. In fact when I called, they asked if I did the MSOS part.
Im not too sure about the fees for linking. I know that Paypal charges USD1.95 on your card which is refunded back to your Paypal account. I also noticed an additional USD1 charge made though Im not sure if its from Maybank or Paypal.
I’ve linked other cards (Ambank NexG and Al-Rajhi Debit Card) and got charged USD1.95 only.

In fact right after posting my previous comment, I sent an email to Paypal and they got back to me within 4 hours. They apologized for the inconvenience and manually refunded USD 1.95 back. Now i have it in my Paypal balance. However, i don’t know about the extra USD 1.00 charge. I’m guessing it’s some processing fee charged by Maybank. Anyways thx for having the liberty to respond. Alright, I just got off the phone with a very helpful customer service representative from Maybank, two thumbs up. She said that she had an issue with one of her customers, it was fixed by increasing the credit limit to RM5000 for the debit card (cherries with the visa logo), the current limit was RM500, and for credit cards that is the minimum allowable limit, she said this could be the reason why Paypal was denying the request, anyways I will try tomorrow or the day after and post back a reply here. Just hope it works.

SUCCESS !! I have managed to successfully link my Maybank Debit Card to my Paypal account. After bugging Maybank three times and for them not to call back at all I thought I would just try again and it works. Here is how I did it, first I linked my Maybank Debit Card to Paypal, it didn’t work, called Maybank 3 times (over 2 weeks), they said their tech department will look into it, when they ask questions, just say Paypal said the Maybank was not allowing the transaction, then I linked the bank account at Maybank to Paypal via the Add Bank option in Paypal, then I withdrew $200 from Paypal into Maybank (took 2-3 days). Then waited for 1-2 days, and today I just randomly tried to link the card, and it works !!!
To the third comment by Ervin Ter, sorry bro but you are mistaken, once a Paypal account is verified the limits are increased.

Im assuming it works the same way for Maybank Visa/Mastercard credit card. Its just that you have to check your statement for the code.
I have sucessfully linked Ambank NexG Mastercard (debit) and Al-rajhi VISA debit card.

If you already link your VISA debit card sucessfully, when you pay someone via Paypal, it will deduct instantly from your card and the other party will also receive it instantly

Very informative. Managed to smoothly complete all the said procedures. I am actually waiting for the 4 digits code to appear in my debit card statement now. But I did check my statement soon after I received notification by Paypal in my email. Hope that it will still be seen in the next few days.

Thanks a lot for the advice. It worked for me. Appreciate the sharing of knowledge. The RM1.00 is a standard charge banks impose when paying using their online banking service. I know CIMB, RHB and Public Bank charges RM1.00 I think Al Rajhi does not imposed such charges.

saya telah mengikut langkah ini. tetapi saya tidak mengikut pada esoknya. saya telah memasukan kod XXXX yang terakhir pada hari ini lebih kurang 10 kali. jadi apa yang perlu saya lakukan? adakah akaun saya dibatalkan?

Hey, the Card Verification Number for step three right, is it the four numbers below the VISA card number? Or the 3 number at the bahind of the card, right after the bank account number?

Thanks SO much for this tutorial. I’ve been trying to link my card to my Paypal for ages now, but I didn’t know about the MSOS thing.
Honestly, Maybank isn’t any help at all in this department. Website, no info. Staff, clueless. The first branch I went to told me that Maybank cards cannot be linked to Paypal (Pffffbt) while the second branch I went to said the same thing, and that the only payment gateway I could use would be M-Something (more Pffffbt).
When I told the person that I’ve friends who have done so before (Twitter rocks) she actually said very sarcastically for me to ask them to do it for me instead.
Honestly that was very very bad service from Maybank. Ironically, in the pamphlet I was handed that had info on MSOS stated right at the bottom “Can I use Paypal to pay for my Maybankard Visa Debit online purchases? YES YOU CAN”.

I got mistake when verifying the code for 3 times, paypal told me to fax some documents to them to verify by fax or my account couldn’t be verified through the website again. What documents do I have to fax to them? I tried to call them but the answer machine said my phone number was wrong although it was the number I had registered to paypal.
